5 Best Marathi Characters in Bollywood

Recently the Government of Maharashtra announced its verdict which has ordered all multiplexes in the state to push Marathi films to prime time slots. And why not?The Marathi Film Industry does need our support, and the lovers of Marathi cinema will agree that it is worth the decision taken. Not only the pot bellied hawaldar and the kaamwali bai, but over the years we have had films with hard hitting marathi characters as the leads in films. So, a complete marathi film certainly be a treat for the audiences. On the occasion of Maharashtra day, we list 5 of our favorite Marathi characters :

1. Bajirao Singham – Singham



Such is the heavy-duty presence of this Maratha character that it has succeeded in embedding one line of the language in of every Indian. – “Aata Majhi Satakli”

2. Baburao Ganpatrao Apte – Hera Pheri



Whenever we speak of Paresh Rawal, the first image that comes to our mind is that of Babu Bhaiyya picking up the phone and answering calls for a certain Mr. Deviprasad.

3. Shashi Godbole – English Vinglish

When the Hawa Hawai girl returned to the silver screen after a hiatus of almost a decade, her acting skills made jaws drop. Her inane dancing skills in the film were the icing on the cake.

4. Nandu Bhide – Happy New Year



When you have the Baadshah of Bollywood acting alongside you in a movie. It is difficult not to get overshadowed. But critic and fan verdict alike, Nandu Bhide played by Abhishek Bachchan was easily the most loved character in the 2014 Diwali blockbuster.

5. Subhash Nagre – Sarkar



Govinda. Govinda. Govinda. Govinda. Govindaaaaaa! Enough said.
