Last year, Indian Ocean gave their fans a fresh slice of fusion rock with Tandanu, the band’s seventh studio album. From blues to jazz, Carnatic to folk rock, Tandanu left us with a feeling of euphoria. Besides the members of the band, Tandanu featured Grammy Award-winning Hindustani classical music instrumentalist Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Karsh Kale, Shankar Mahadevan, Shubha Mudgal, Vishal Dadlani, Selva Ganesh and Kumaresh Rajagopalan. The melodies they created weren’t just a tribute to music, but also a celebration of 25 years of the band.
Formed in 1990, Indian Ocean has a come a long way. Like every other rock band, Indian Ocean has had its share of difficult days too. It was their constant hard work and love for music that made Indian Ocean one of India’s most beloved fusion rock bands.
The band faced a setback when Asheem Chakravarty succumbed to a fatal cardiac arrest in December 2009, and later with Susmit Sen’s exit in June 2013. Nonetheless, the band has been creating music and spreading happiness to the fans. Currently, the band’s line-up includes Amit Kilam (percussion, drums), Rahul Ram (bass, vocals), Nikhil Rao (guitars), Tuheen Chakravorty (tabla) and Himanshu Joshi (vocals). This month, Indian Ocean will be performing at Rock N Raag – a multi-city musical concert. To warm up a bit, here are the five best songs by Indian Ocean:
Behney Do – Indian Ocean ft. Karsh Kale
Charkha – Indian Ocean ft. Vishwa Mohan Bhatt
