5 Best Space Travel Movies Ever Made!

Life Beyond Earth has always been a topic of discussion among the nerds. About the possibilities, paradoxes and permutations. This is the topic our film makers have always felt fascinated towards. We, as lay people, have never seen space and it is only through the films based on time travel, space and aliens that we get the glimpse of what outer space might look like. Hollywood film makers especially have gotten smitten by this bug of space travel theme and almost every year we get one or two great movies made on this theme.

Now when the astronomers have discovered seven Earth-size planets orbiting a single nearby star — and these new worlds could hold life, let's look at 5 best movies ever made on Space Travel theme.

1. Interstellar
Christopher Nolan's visionary epic, Interstellar is one gem of a movie that combines speculative theory with a degree of scientific accuracy. It traces the story of a pilot who has to travel through time and space to save Earth and all its resources from depleting. It is one of the most accurate portrayal of some of the scientific facts about space and universe.

2. Gravity
Released in 2013, Gravity is a space disaster movie featuring Sandra Bullock. Hyper-realistic visual effects that stunned viewers, one of the best displays of 3D technologies, and a simple but thrilling story of survival, Gravity captured audiences' imaginations like no other.

3.2001: Space Odyssey
The film is considered as one of the finest sci-fi movies ever made. Considering the film was made in 1968, it displayed a spectacular epic conception of space travel. The visual imagery, and the fictional technologies used in the film were far too ahead of its time. Even today it inspires awe upon every viewing. It is one of cinema's most accurate depictions of a spaceflight.

4. Moon
A relatively low-budget movie, Moon is a 2009 British sci-fi movie that looks and feels much bigger. The film follows the story of a lone astronaut (Sam Rockwell) working at a lunar station. It is a thoughtful look at the psychological effects of space life on humans. Rockwell's performance was much appreciated and the movie also won many awards and recognition.

5. The Martian
The Martian is a 2015 American Sci-fi film, directed by Ridley Scott, which traces the life of an astronaut, played by Matt Damon, who is mistakenly presumed dead and left behind on Mars by his team. It is the story of his survival on Mars. The movie is based on best-selling novel of 2011 of the same name.
