5 Bollywood Movies that made men cry

What would our lives be without Bollywood? No, seriously. As much as we treat it as nothing but entertainment, some films have literally driven home impactful life lessons. It’s a known fact that Bollywood is synonymous with melodrama. And why wouldn’t it be? After all, it paints a larger-than-life picture for the common man. Love stories too good to be real, happy endings that are only possible in reel life, and many such concepts only look good on the big screen. Yet, some films have struck a chord somewhere, amid all the melodrama. These movies have touched our lives in more ways than one, often teaching us important things that we unknowingly forget. It’s hard to relate men with display of emotions, as compared to women. They tend to keep it to themselves, as opposed to women who aren’t shy of expressing. Over the years, Bollywood has delivered some of the finest films that have made even the strongest of men succumb to human emotions. They may not have said it out loud, but deep down, they know it.

Here are 5 films that left at least some men teary-eyed, even if it was for a few seconds:
1. Anand
Director Hrishikesh Mukherjee gave us this heart-wrenching film that explores the concept life and death at the same time. Rajesh Khanna did a fabulous job as "Anand" and it was difficult to see such a lively character die in the most tragic way. There’s no way you didn’t feel the pain of a person who really wanted to live, but was left helpless. The film gave out a subtle message: there’s nothing we can do to escape death. Eventually, it will find you. How often do we see men crying desperately in a film? Anand is the perfect example.
2. Saaransh
If there ever was a Mahesh Bhatt film that showed us what pain and agony means, it was Saaransh. Anupam Kher debuted on the big screen as an elderly father who grieves his only son’s death. The film rightly depicts the struggles of old age and the emotions it brings along – loneliness, anxiety and aimlessness. Anupam Kher’s performance numbed our minds and left us speechless. You couldn’t help but feel sorry for the old couple and the miserable life they led.
3. Rang De Basanti
No words can describe this masterpiece that brought tears to everyone’s eyes. Few films have explored patriotism in true sense and Rang De Basanti is one of them. You’d be lying if you said that the last few scenes in the film didn’t make you weep. Five lives take a dramatic turn after one tragic incident. What starts out as a fun experience turns into a serious act of courage. And why do all the men have to die? Bollywood isn’t always a bed of roses. RDB gave us a harsh reality check and how!
4. Taare Zameen Par
There’s nothing more innocent than childhood. Taare Zameen Par proved it in a beautiful manner. The film conveyed an important parenting message that is easily forgotten these days. Little Ishaan Awasthi and his dyslexic problems were an eye-opener for many unaware people. Damn, the kid made you cry when you saw him weeping in the hostel bathroom! And who could forget the lovely song, "Maa"? We bet all the mumma’s boys felt a strong pinch of emotions running through their souls. And if you didn’t cry during the entire movie, the last scene where Ishaan hugs Aamir Khan will make you cry, every single time you watch it!
5. Udaan
One of Anurag Kashyap’s finest creations, Udaan wasn’t highly successful at the box office, but it slowly turned into a classic film. Loosely based on the life of Kashyap, this film exposed us to the relationship between an abusive father and his son. Udaan goes beyond the conventional, it takes more of an introspective approach. That final scene where Rohan finally leaves his father’s home along with his half-brother is touching, to say the least.

Of course, not all men cried after watching all these films. And these aren’t the only movies that made us emotional. You can add more to the list in the comments section below!
