This year’s edition of the India Couture Week just wrapped up last week and we were presented with awe-inspiring and extravagant designs by the crème de la crème of the Indian fashion industry. With a grand opening on Day 1 by Manish Malhotra, this year we saw designers like Anita Dongre, Anamika Khanna, Varun Bahl and Tarun Tahiliani showcase their haute couture lines. As designer Rohit Bal closed yet another exciting week of opulent, majestic and luxury fashion with its roots ingrained in several cultures, this year’s ICW was a royal affair.
Let’s take a look at the Bollywood celebrities who graced the runway as showstoppers for several designers at the India Couture Week 2016.
Deepika Padukone and Fawad Khan
Inspired by the mystical land of rich culture and art, Manish Malhotra’s collection ‘The Persian Story’ transported us into another era. His designs reflected his love for Iranian culture and things on the runway just got more exciting as Bollywood stars Deepika Padukone and Fawad Khan walked the ramp as showstoppers for Malhotra.
Manav Gangwani’s collection at India Couture Week this year exhibited the charm and royalty from the Mughal era. The ‘Begum-e-Jannat‘ collection, which was a tribute to his late friend Zainab Nedou Patel, had models sashaying down the runway draped in extravagant silhouettes. And who better to walk as showstopper than the ravishing Kangana Ranaut, who looked magical as ever in this bridal ensemble.
Actress Saiyami Kher, who will soon be making her debut in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Mirzya, also made her runway debut as she walked the ramp for maestro designer Gaurav Gupta. His collection ‘Scape Song’ oozed glamour with every outfit, with designs filled with glitter, ruffles and pizzazz.
Divya Khosla Kumar
Taking inspiration from Rajasthan, designer Reynu Taandon’s collection was an extravagant and elaborate Rajasthani affair. With hues of gold and red, with intricate motifs and full-length anarkalis and lehengas, actress Divya Khosla Kumar was a sight to behold as she turned showstopper for this bridal collection.
Ace designers Rimple & Harpreet Narula presented their collection ‘Hirayat’ on Day 3 of the India Couture Week 2016. Their designs began with shades of ivory to more earthy tones and eventually took a turn to the dark side with deep tones of blue, depicting the gradual transition from day to night. This dramatic collection had a grand closing as actress Yami Gautam walked the ramp in this mystical blue and golden lehenga.
