Making it big in the B-town is not easy, but what is all the more difficult is to sustain the achieved stardom. We have heard many stories of rags to riches, stars who have made themselves who they are and on their own. Then there are those who couldn't take in all the success and went penniless. But there are also those very few who overcame bankruptcy and held their head high.
Not that you are going to believe but even King Khan had to empty his pockets to produce his dream project Ra One. Fortunately, the movie fared well for the superstar to fill the empty accounts but otherwise it could have been a huge disaster. There are many celebrities who suffered bankruptcy and managed to get back on their feet on their own or with some help. Let's have a look at few of the most famous celebrities from that lot:
In the year 2000, when everyone was ready to welcome the new century, Big B was suffering from financial bankruptcy as his company ABCL was over 90 crores INR in debt. He also shared on his personal blog, "In the year 2000, when the entire world was celebrating the new century, I was celebrating my disastrous fortune. There were no films, no money and no company." However, he moved to the silver screen to TV and KBC was a huge success.
After her successful acting career, the pretty Preity tried her hand at production. After her first venture Ishq in Paris, which was a box office disaster, Preity was deep in financial dues. Even the write-director of the film filed a case against her for non-payment of dues. Salman Khan, being a good friend, offered her help after hearing that she has put her apartment up for rent.
In 2008, Jaggu Dada borrowed money from the filmmaker Sajid Nadiadwala and couldn't pay the dues on time. He was to get into trouble because Sajid wanted to recover his money the legal way. It was then Salman Khan, being close friends to both parties, had to intervene to resolve the matter. Sources say that Mr. Shroff had to sell his properties to repay the loan.
After a major failure of his maiden production One By Two, Abhay Deol suffered from a huge financial crisis. He had to allegedly put up his Juhu flat for mortgage in order to take care of his financial troubles and had to shift to his house in Santacruz. This incident made him cautious and selective on the movies he invested in.
Evidently, the present decade has not been very happening for Govinda. There was a time that he was away from the screen for five years (before Kill Dill). It was only on the premiere of his daughter's film that he opened up about his bad days and said that there were times when his didn't have money and even hiring a taxi was a hard task for him. Even during the film Partner (2007), Salman Khan helped him financially while he was in debt.
