Let’s face it! No matter what the producers or the actors want you to believe, it’s a widely known secret that reality shows are scripted. If you are to believe otherwise, then you would be just fooling yourself, probably. We enjoy these so called reality shows despite the fact that little of it is true. It’s a sort of guilty pleasure for most of us and a way to unwind ourselves are a long day at work. And what’s better entertainment than two people quarrelling over spilt milk? But there are a few shows that, under the guise of reality TV, dished out content which was universally panned by audiences. We bring five such reality TV shows that left us disappointed.
Well, this one took all of us by surprise. It was a revolutionary concept that had you spy on your cheating girlfriend or boyfriend while the whole world watches in excitement. Except that it was scripted to begin with. The models who worked on the show as actors later came out and confessed the same.
The Indian version of Wife Swap, Maa Exchange was a show about celebrities swapping places with regular Indian housewives. The purpose of the show (or at least that’s how it began) was to discover more about each other. But expect the TRP hungry makers to add a bit of ‘masala’ to it. It drifted away from this beautiful concept of discovering each other's lives to throwing accusations and flaring tempers. Soon, the audience wised up to the act and show got cancelled.
We honestly do not know why this ever saw the light of day! The concept, though fresh, was shallow. The show involved contestants being bullied by 3 dadas and whoever does not give up, takes home a hefty sum of money. At one point, the show crossed all limits of crassness when a contestant was beaten up by a dozen men for slapping a dada in retaliation. Self-defence, perhaps?
Rakhi Ka Swayamvar
Rakhi Sawant, the actor-turned-dancer-turned-philosopher-turned-politician, has reprised many roles throughout her career and it was time for her to settle down. And what better than doing so on national TV? Yes, that’s Rakhi Sawant for you! The show was riddled with controversies and the fact that Rakhi didn't even marry the winner, Elesh Parunjawala, only stemmed the rumours that it was all just a hoax.
Jeeto Chappar Phaad Ke
This reality quiz game show, hosted by Govinda flopped miserably as it was no different than the then successful show Kaun Banega Crorepati. It was cancelled right after season one.
