Domestic violence is an offence punishable by law. Everyone knows it. Some abide by the rule; some ignore it. Yes, relationships are complex in nature, even messier at times. But this complexity leading to a woman being subjected to torture or violence is downright atrocious. Several Bollywood filmmakers have come forward and made films on this issue, which has been prevailing in our society since like forever. This week too, we have Mohit Suri‘s upcoming romantic film, Hamari Adhuri Kahani, which apparently deals with the issue to a great extent. Likewise, we present to you 5 more films that threw light upon abusive relationships:
Daman: A Victim of Marital Violence – Featuring Raveena Tandon, the film uncovers the spine-chilling truth that several women in India face behind close doors.
Lajja – Another heart-wrenching story of a woman, who flees from her husband’s trap of torture.
Provoked – Based on true events, Provoked is story of a woman who kills her abusive husband. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who featured as the victim of violence was lauded for her performance.
7 Khoon Maaf – Directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, the filmmaker has righteously portrayed the patience as well as fury of a woman.
NH10 – Though not entirely, NH10 did feature an essence of chauvinism and the torture in significant parts of the film.
Hamari Adhuri Kahani too deals with domestic violence. But is also brings forth a love story that will touch your soul. Featuring Emraan Hashmi, Vidya Balan and Rajkummar Rao in the lead roles; the film is all set to release this Friday!
