Film casting must be the most underrated job ever. Do you ever look up the rolling credits on screen for a casting director? Don’t bother answering that, it’s a rhetorical question. Most people are ill-informed when it comes to nuances of filmmaking. The casting director (CD), in tandem with the director of the film look out for potential candidates. And if they do their job right, the director and the actor get the credit; otherwise, the blame squarely falls on the CD. Such is life! Here we take a look at five horrible miscasts that should have never happened.
Hayden Christensen – Star Wars series
If you are life long Star Wars fan then you know why he is on the list. Star Wars fans, for the most part have been subjected to insipid love story woven through a barrage of stilted dialogues. All thanks to Mr. Christensen. He came across as a brat, petulant and arrogant snob, a character disliked by fans. Let’s just say the force was not with him.
George Clooney – Batman and Robin
Clooney is a real good actor, yes. But his portrayal as the Dark Knight in Joel Schumacher's Batman and Robin was abysmal to say the least. Instead of a dark, menacing and bad-ass vigilante, we got a goofy, irritating version of the caped crusader who owns a credit card with the bat logo on it. *facepalm*
Keanu Reeves – John Constantine
Keanu Reeves just doesn't cut in as John Constantine. In the comics, Constantine is portrayed as a world-weary Brit with a good sense of humor and questionable motives. Reeve’s version was simply dazed and blank.
Mickey Rooney – Breakfast at Tiffany
Mickey Rooney’s I.Y. Yunioshi, the Asian landlord is a spectacular example of miscasting. Why would you hire an Englishman to play a Japanese? Why?
Colin Farrell – Alexander the Great
Alexander was a warrior of epic proportions who conquered territories stretching from Greece to Egypt. An actor playing this iconic ruler has to be at his best. Unfortunately, Colin wasn’t, who played him in 2004. His acting was choppy and don’t get us started on that shoddy blonde mullet.
