Jonathan Kimble Simmons shot up in popularity with his Oscar-award winning role in Whiplash, but he’s been around for quite a long time. We are glad to see this underrated actor finally getting the recognition he deserves. This year, he will appear in whopping seven movies, which include the highly-anticipated Justice League where he plays Commissioner Gordon.
Simmons has a knack for playing authority figures and villains that intimidate other characters. While we love his portrayals of these roles, we would never willingly subject ourselves to these characters played by him. On his birthday today, let’s have a look at some of J. K. Simmons’ roles that we love to hate.
Terence Fletcher – Whiplash
We’re glad we didn’t have Fletcher as a teacher or we would have PTSD that would haunt us for many, many years. While he might not have seen himself as the bad guy, he was not anyone’s favorite person.
Bill – La La Land
Bill refuses to be charmed by Ryan Gosling and fires him when he doesn’t play the set list at his restaurant. He had a point, but he could have been a little nicer about it. We see a hint of Fletcher in this character, and we feel pretty much the same way about him.
Can you imagine anyone else as Peter Parker’s hot-tempered boss? The only acceptable answer here is "no". While we’re sure Jameson has some redeeming qualities that we might like him for, his personality only leaves room for hatred.
In this TV show, P. J. Jordan is a strict boss where every single sentence coming out of his mouth is an insult to the people who work under him. He’s hilarious to see on the comedy show, but we would hate him with a passion if he were our boss.
Kai – Kung Fu Panda 3
Kai, the villain from the last Kung Fu Panda movie, was voiced by none other than J. K. Simmons. He’s a selfish, jealous bull, who steals the chi from others, and everybody was glad when he gets exactly the end he deserves in the movie.
We wish J. K. Simmons a very happy birthday and look forward to seeing more great performances by him.
