Last year, Karan Johar’s Hasee Toh Phasee showed us how love went Cucking Frazy just a week before Valentine’s Day! One year down the line, we look back at one of Bollywood’s most subtly made rom coms in recent times.
We loved Parineeti in her geeky avatar in the film, and we absolutely adored Sidharth Malhotra as the gooey lover! Together, the duo taught us some valuable life lessons as they took us on a ”senti-mental” ride. Here’s what we learned from Hasee Toh Phasee:
1. Love will come to you when you least expect it.
Sidharth and Parineeti’s chemistry in the film is a perfect example of how two misfits can fall in love when they least expect it. Everything seems to be hunky dory, until that one person comes along and gives your life a whole new meaning. Too filmy? Maybe. Impossible? Nah!
2. Never be too afraid to apologize to your own people.
Seven years of separation is buried deep when Parineeti shows up to apologize to her family at her sister’s wedding. Probably one of the most moist-eyed moments in the film. It’s pretty much the same in real life, isn’t it? Whether we are right or wrong, the only set of people who will stand by us is our family. So, never be afraid to apologize, irrespective of how mad they are at you. They will forgive you, eventually.
3. Money is not everything in life.
The only cause of dispute between Sidharth and Adah in the film was the former’s financial stability, or the lack of it. Sure, money can buy you a lot of things. But is it the sole purpose of your existence? Hasee Toh Phasee’s story revolves around the simple formula – the only high you need is life, love and smiles. How often do we realize this uncomplicated truth of our lives?
4. Live life like there’s no tomorrow.
The scene where Parineeti asks Sidharth if he wants to accompany her to Goa sums up her way of looking at life. Life is short. Don’t stop, keep moving. Nobody knows what tomorrow will be like. Follow your instincts, live the moment. Do what makes you happy, even if it means going against societal norms. It’s your life, make it count! But how many of us actually live by it?
5. Chase your dreams, no matter how crazy they sound to others.
Yep, because only you know where you want to be in life. People may judge you for being overambitious. Let them. When you chase your dream long enough, it does come true sooner or later. At the end of the day, what matters is how much it means to you. Go for it!
Bollywood does paint a larger-than-life picture in most cases, but it also gives us a reality check at the same time. No matter how melodramatic Hindi films are, somewhere deep down they have a lasting impact on us fans. Bollywood FTW!
