It is the age of sequels, prequels, remakes, and reboots. Sequels are usually seen as a desperate cash-grab, drawing in the fans with the promise of familiar characters and themes but often failing to deliver. This year, Alien releases its seventh sequel and Transformers its fifth. But these are certainly not the first movies series to cross the five-movie mark. Not considering the obvious contenders of Star Wars, Star Trek, and the like, these are five more notable movie series that have long crossed five sequels:

This sci-fi action-horror movie series came to an end last year. Resident Evil is one of the highest grossing movies to be based on video games, despite receiving negative reviews by critics for most movies.

The original Planet of the Apes series went through a revival in 2011 with the prequel, Rise of the Planet of the Apes. It was such a huge success that it led to a series of sequels of the prequel, which might possibly end with War of the Planet of the Apes releasing this year.
