It is amazing how we connect to the story of a movie and its characters. We end up creating a special space for them in our heart. We cannot bear to hear a word against our favorite movies or characters. For example, if anyone says Rancho was not a good guy, we would just plain deny and immediately form an opinion about the person who said so. Think practically. The guy bullied Chatur Ramalingam before the whole college that scarred Chatur for the rest of his life. He slipped out of a girl's life without any explanation and made fun of every possible thing. Come to think of it, these characters are often projected in a positive light so you could just ignore the their darker shades.
Let's take a look at some of the characters from your favorite movies who were not really as good as you thought they were. Why? Because who doesn't love ruining sweet memories?
Baby Anjali, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai
So the cute little eight-year-old Anjali who loves her daddy and Daadi. The only thing she receives from her mother are those eight letters. Fine, she has our sympathy here. But if you try and analyse, she was manipulative and emotionally exploitative. Now, it is up to you to decide if the kid or her mother's letters brainwashed Aman to not marry Anjali Sr. and had her marry Rahul, who left her almost 10 years back.
Tina, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai
And then if you are not convinced Anjali was a shady character, meet her mother. Tina fell for the ever-charming Rahul and named her daughter after Rahul's best friend Anjali. Sweet. But if you've noticed, Tina knew well that Anjali loved Rahul but she couldn't care less. And when she knew she was going to die, she wrote eight letters for her daughter and did the groundwork to mess up Anjali's life yet again.
Nandini, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam
The beautiful and very talented Nandini was her father's pride. She had to leave behind Samir, the love of her life and marry a not-so-good-looking and definitely not very talented Vanraj. Sad. However, what about the fact that she didn't love her husband and made him spend all good money and "honeymoon" time finding the love of her life. Finally, when she finds Samir, she conveniently chooses to leave him, again!
Raj is your quintessential god of romance. He loved a girl and fought tooth and nail for her. Awww! What you chose to ignore is that he was a spoilt brat who couldn't even graduate. Agreed he went all the way to India to get Simran, but if Babuji hadn't stopped him after finding *that* photo, he was planning to leave anyway without Simran.
Durga, Karan Arjun
Durga's husband and sons were killed by the baddies.
Then again, going to the very people who killed her husband with her sons was not a wise thing in the first place. Also, emotionally blackmailing the lookalikes of her sons so she could seek revenge? Not cool!
Similarly, Kailashnath (Hum Aapke Hain Koun) emotionally blackmailed his family members, Munna Bhai was a liar and Raj Aryan Malhotra used his innocent students. There, our job here is done!
