With great talent comes great popularity, irrespective of your conditions. Along with talent, you do require a lot of vigorous hard work. Born on 28th December, 1922, Stanley Martin Lieber was born to Celia and Jack Lieber in Manhattan. Stanley's dream was to become a writer and as he planned on using his given name for his novel, his first comic filler was published under the pseudonym, Stan Lee. Filling ink pots for cartoonists, correcting typos, removing the pencil marks Stan Lee did it all before he got a chance to write. His hard work and sheer talent paid off as he went forward to co-create immortal characters like Spider-Man, Iron Man, Hulk, Fantastic Four, Ant-Man, Avengers, Doctor Strange, X-Men and many more.
Stan Lee hasn't spent his life sitting behind a desk, penning stories that were a perfect mix of real-world problems in a fantasy world. He became the interim editor of Timely comics at the young age of 19 and he also did a stint in the army before becoming the face of Marvel and working towards making the conglomerate we see today. At 93, despite a major health scare, Stan Lee continues to absorb powers from the characters he created and continues to amaze us. There are a number of reasons why we hold him in such high regard and we don't mind listing some of them for you.
Harbinger of change
He introduced the concept of a shared universe, he continued to keep his writing complex to appease his adult fans and educating the young ones. He went against the comic code authority and even published a comic without their stamp because he believed what he was doing was right.
Apart from being the title of his autobiography, Stan Lee ended his monthly column Stan's Soapbox with this word. Even the Hulk animated series ended with the quote, "This is Stan Lee saying Excelsior!" The Latin word simply means going upward and that's what he has been doing.
A Marvel movie is not complete without that familiar face of the bespectacled guy. He sometimes even ropes in his wife to star alongside him. He is the only actor who has been a part of all the Marvel movies across all the different production houses. He says that his appearance sells tickets as people would watch the movie again if they missed it. We won't disagree with him and just show you all of his cameos till now.
He's a Superhero
He has a superhero version of himself. If you have seen the movie Big Hero 6 closely, you might have seen Stan's cameo towards the end, suggesting he hides a secret 'super' life of his own.
Showman all the way
There are a variety of artists and brains who work behind the comics and movies we see today. Stan Lee might be the creator but he has passed on the reins to a variety of people who make it so successful. Without belittling their vast efforts, such popularity would not have been possible if not for Stan Lee's quirky antics as the face of Marvel.
