She’s the youngest amongst the lot of new entrants in Bollywood and at 22, she’s accomplished more than anyone else. After a successful debut in Student Of The Year in 2012, Alia Bhatt didn’t really have much to talk about in 2013. But things changed in 2014. She soared high and had 3 back-to-back hits: Highway, Two States and Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania. She is unstoppable and is killing it with her remarkable talent. She is already ruling the silver screen, and her line-up of upcoming movies looks fantastic. Read on to discover the five defining moments of this feisty actress’s career and why we think she is the next big thing!
The girl with the Midas touch
If you’ve watched Highway, you know this girl deserves a standing ovation. Alia transformed from her debut film, and how! Her prowess as an actress was appreciated by all. Then her two romcoms – 2 States and Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania– hit the bull’s eye at the box office. 2 States, in which she played the Tam-Bram girl, won everyone’s hearts, and the film entered the 100-crore club. Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania showcased her versatility, and striking chemistry with Varun Dhawan. She will soon be seen in three big banner films- Shaandaar, Udta Punjab and Kapoor & Sons– which we cannot wait to watch. Without a doubt we can say, she’s a superstar in the making.
Yes, she can sing!
Everyone went gaga over the fact that Alia crooned Sooha Saha in Highway. Her singing debut struck the right chords and the audience loved her even more. She topped it with her soulful version of Samjhawaan in Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania. Killing it, right?
So far, on Koffee with Karan, only Shah Rukh Khan and Alia Bhatt have made appearances twice in a single season. Alia Bhatt did so in the last season, appearing once with the Student Of the Year boys, Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra, when we witnessed her GK faux pas and, second, when she ended the season alongside her contemporary, Parineeti Chopra. A King-sized feat, for sure!
Genius of the year
After her Koffee with Karan goof-up, Alia Bhatt was the butt of all internet jokes and memes. But Alia is not one to keep quiet and sulk. In fact, she showed maturilty and took the self-deprecating route. Her spoof video with All India Bakchod almost broke the internet, and she became the coolest and the most talked-about girl in town. She’s a true sport!
Making a difference
These days, Bollywood is all about commercial cinema and doing item numbers. Alia Bhatt chose to be different and made time to be part of a short film called Going Home. The film was aimed at creating awareness about women’s safety. The film directed by Vikas Bahl, who also is her Shandaar director, won many accolades. Impressive, na?
