Gippy Grewal aka Rupinder Singh Grewal made headlines recently for his catchy song Oscar, which was a collaboration with the current sensation, Badshah. The superstar who entered the Punjabi film industry as a singer with albums like Phulkari and Chakh Lai has created an identity for himself without any backing in the business. He has been ruling the charts of Punjabi music for the past few years now and has a humongous fan base. For those who don’t know much about him, we think you should definitely update your filmy knowledge about this Punjabi Jatt. On his 34th birthday, we have enlisted the top five things you ought to know about the man who has given us some awesome dance numbers.
He holds a hotel management degree:Well, we may know him to be the perfect star who was meant to be in front of the camera or with a mike in his hand, not many know that he holds a hotel management degree. Before he tasted success, Gippy worked as a waiter in New Delhi after which he went to Canada and worked as a security guard. Isn’t he the perfect example of “hardwork pays off”?
He is married with two adorable sons:He has a huge female fan following and we are sure this may not go too well with them but he is happily married to Ravneet Kaur and they have two beautiful children. The two sons: Ekomakar Singh Grewal and Gurfateh Singh Grewal are like mini-superstars and the doting father has even launched his own production company and named it “Gurfateh Productions”.
Also an actor:Gippy made his acting debut in 2010 with Mel Karade Rabba and was acclaimed for his performance even though he was in a supporting role. His movie Carry On Jatta was produced by his brother Sippy Grewal and was the second highest opening Punjabi film.
Angrezi Beat:If you love the Angrezi Beat song from the Hindi movie Cocktail and it still remains in your list of favorites, you have Gippy to thank. In 2012, Gippy collaborated with Honey Singh to create this hit song, which was then included in the Bollywood movie.
Bollywood Stint:Gippy has also worked in Bollywood films like Dharam Sankat Mein and Second Hand Husband. Even though the actor hasn’t yet made a mark in Bollywood, Gippy has made a big name for himself in the Punjabi film industry.
We wish the multi-talented star a very happy birthday and hope we get to see some more of his amazing work in the coming years.
