There are two kinds of heroes; first, the ones who we see on-screen in our films, the larger than life personalities, and second, the ones who are commoners, just like you and me, but their deeds make them heroes in all real senses. One of our Bollywood heroes, Akshay Kumar , has blurred the line of these two hero personas. His noble deeds towards society and for his fellow citizens, outside cinema have made him a real life hero we can all look up to. No doubt, his films like Baby,Airlift, Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty and Rustom (which even fetched him a National Award) have earned him respect, but it is his good things and works he has done and has been doing that made him an inspiration and a role model for the common man.
Here are five things that he has done for the society that won him immense respect.
1. When he pioneered the cause of Bharat Ke Veer App and Website
With the help and support of Govt. of India, Akshay Kumar launched the Bharat Ke Veer App and website to help the families and loved ones of the martyred paramilitary soldiers. As a philanthropist, he himself has donated generously to the Indian army. With this app, he has created a platform for his fellow citizens to donate for the same cause, without their money falling in the hands of crooks.
2. When he launched an Insurance Policy for Stuntsmen
Just recently while receiving his National Award, Akshay Kumar announced an insurance scheme which will cover 380 stuntmen and women between the age group of 18 to 55. With this noble deed, he is securing the lives of Bollwyood's unsung heroes and their families.
3. When he himself dug pits to build toilets to stress on the importance of hygiene and sanitation.
Akshay Kumar is doing a film, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, which highlights the importance of toilets in our country. It was during the shooting of the film that Akshay realised the need to educate people about this issue and to do this, he himself went a remote village in Khargone district of Madhya Pradesh and dug pits to build toilets. When a renouned actor does something like this, he deserves appreciation!
4. When he imparts self-defence lessons on Youtube with his co-star Taapsee Pannu
Akshay won our hearts when he released a video of his with Taapsee Pannu, giving lessons on self-defence. Being a martial art expert himself, he always stresses on the need for women to learn basic martial arts for their self defence.
5. When he donated Rs. 9 Lakh each to the families of 12 CRPF jawans martyred in Sukma
He doesn't just preach but, lead by example. Do we need to say more?
Not just a hero on-screen, Akshay Kumar has proved from time to time, he is a real-life hero as well. You have our respect.
