5 Times Anil Kapoor Was Awesome

He has been acting for more than 3 decades. He’s been a romantic hero, action star, drama king, and comic genius. His films take up much of the list of Bollywood Classics. He has romanced some of the most beautiful women in Bollywood: Sridevi, Madhuri Dixit, Juhi Chawla and Aishwarya Rai.  He is the father of a 30-year old, who we’re sure will agree, that he’s hotter than her. Anil Kapoor is not just an actor, he’s a Bollywood icon. His fan following transcends borders and age barriers, and with good reason. His charm and charisma is at par with his acting skills. On his birthday, we look back at all the times he has impressed us.

When he became the most watched Invisible Man ever.

There were many memorable aspects to Mr. India: Sridevi in Kate Nahin Kat Te, Amrish Puri‘s Mogambo Khush Hua, and Satish Kaushik‘s Calendar. But the most memorable was Anil Kapoor as  Mr. India– a man trying to fight the forces of evil and keep his family safe (and fed- “Calendar, khana lao!”).

When he was the most adorable romantic hero of the 90s.

Many a girl swooned at his middle-aged avatar in the YRF take on December-May romance- Lamhe. He proved his mettle as an actor, giving one of his best performances ever. And then came back to rule our hearts in 1942: A Love Story.

When he hosted KBC in a movie and became more famous than the actual show.

Slumdog Millionaire put India in the spotlight in Hollywood, sweeping the awards season and making Anil Kapoor Hollywood’s go-to man for the sub-continental look.

When he became an international star with 24 at 54.

Anil Kapoor played the President of an Islamic nation in the eighth season of the hit TV show, 24. He then went on to play the role of a womanizing Indian media tycoon in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol,  putting India on the map in this iconic film franchise.

When he gave Indian television a much-needed boost.

Anil Kapoor was the driving force behind the remake of 24 for Indian television. The Indian avatar of this TV show was edgy, intense and unlike anything seen on Indian TV screens before. While it may not have been as good as the original, we are still grateful for the move away from the usual soaps Made In India. With the next season of 24 just around the corner, we’re hoping Anil Kapoor will make it even more awesome than the last one!
