“A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies.” – George R. R. Martin
Good stories, when read, make your imagination soar high and weave that tale in your mind. Your mind is the director and those images are nothing less than perfect. Great authors have the magical talent of using the power of some chosen words and transporting you to a world they have created for you to explore. They make you live there and they have the ability to play with your imagination. There is a great appeal to see these stories on the big screen with the physical form being given to all those characters and places in your head. Yes, the book is always going to be better than the movie and that definitely doesn’t make us stop from wishing to see some stories on the big screen. Filmmakers have sometimes successfully and sometimes terribly tried to adapt these stories into movies for a wider appeal. Believing in the ones that turned out amazing, we have compiled a wish list of novels which would make amazing movies.
Fangirl – Rainbow Rowell
You have come across these girls on countless social platforms and blogs. Some of them wear their fandom with pride while some are very subtle but noticeable. Whichever category you belong to, this novel is sure to tug at your heartstrings and you will see a part of you in the protagonist, Cath. And you know how exciting writing fan fiction can be and a movie about it would certainly gather fans.
The Catcher in the Rye – J. D. Slinger
A classic that was very controversial at the time of its release, has been translated in over 150 languages since then. A story, spanning over three days, is from the point of view of the protagonist Holden Caulfield and his adventures. A variety of teen-based themes like angst and exploring one’s sexuality are covered in the novel. The movie for this novel would certainly stand out in the young adult movies we see today.
One Hundred Years of Solitude – Gabriel Garcia Marquez
This is yet another one of the classics that explores the history of one single family. A multi-generational story like this have their own charm, when they are depicting the timeline of a family, where they are haunted by the legacy, where whenever you try to do things differently, history repeats itself. This story is about the seven generations of Buendia family and an on-screen version will only be grander.
Empire of the Moghul – Alex Rutherford
There have been a lot of documentaries on the invasion of the Moghuls and the rich culture that they brought with them. A fictional story revolving around real events makes this a very interesting read. The author has started the storyline from Babur’s ascent to the throne and his invasion of Delhi. He continues his story through six books, each dedicated to the heir of the throne thereafter. The author’s attention to details will leave you baffled and you will not be able to decide whether it is fact or fiction, and a movie will certainly be amazing.
American Assassin – Vince Flynn
Lee Child’s master-of-all-trades character Jack Reacher got his own movie. Vince Flynn’s Mitch Rapp is no less, he is an assassin trained to kill perfectly. The books series are stories from his point of view and delving into the mind of such people who have their body clocks and gut instincts on high alert all the time is very exciting. His fight moves are certainly things to be seen on the big screen.
The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel – Michael Scott
This one is a treat for all Dan Brown and J.K Rowling fans. There’s magic mixed with globe-trotting, looking for clues that lead to something we have only heard in mythology. All the famous landmarks are the clues and we have young explorers wading through the dangers. We cannot wait for this series to be made into a movie.
We end our list here, but we understand there are a lot more out there which would make epic movies. Let us know your choices in the comments below and don’t forget to share.
