Sometimes it requires more than just a brief reading of the script and showing up on the set to shoot the film. A few roles require attention to intricate details; be it extensive makeup or learning a skill. Filmmakers these days are very nit-picky about their characters and want to portray the best on screen. Such roles come with a great cost. Actors spend an exhausting amount of time prepping and getting into characters which could take anywhere from months to years. We take a look at few such celebs who underwent crazy body transformations for movie roles that almost made them unrecognizable.
Fans were worried when paparazzi photos of the 63-year-old actor surfaced over the internet. This frighteningly frail frame of a person was no other than Liam Neeson who lost 20 pounds for the upcoming Martin Scorsese's new film, Silence. Since Martin vies perfection, Neeson was asked to look a little gaunt. Well, Neeson takes his role too seriously.
Voted as the second sexiest man in Asia, Hrithik is known for his hot body and Greek god looks. The eye candy of Bollywood was not really blessed with a physique of Hercules, in fact, he gained weight for Guzaarish and had to dump all the extra fat for the role of Krissh. That’s some transformation!
Who would have thought a 300 lbs actor would play the iconic Starlord in a Marvel movie! Enter Chriss Pratt. Chriss who is known for his role of Andy Dwyer in Parks and Recreation, sent ripples across the internet when he posted a perfectly chiseled body with six pack abs 3 years ago. His hard work and dedication paid off when the Marvel movie took the world by storm.
Charlize went from the most desirable woman to the ugliest woman albeit for a movie role. Her character in the 2003 movie, Monster required her to gain up to 30 lbs. Moreover, she partially shaved off her eyebrows and bleached them. In addition to that, she had to don artificial dentures and her hair was repeatedly thinned and fried to give them a jagged look. No wonder she is one of the best actors in Hollywood.
Jake weighed 180 lbs when he was offered the role of a twisted crime paparazzo in the movie, Nightcrawler. He starved himself to lose some weight. In addition to that, in a weakened state, he ran 15 miles to burn few more calories. The end result you may ask?
Right after the movie, Jake was roped in to play a southern boxer Billy Hope. His training spanned over a year where he had to learn the nitty-gritties of boxing and transform himself into muscle tower. After grueling 2000 push ups a day, a five-mile run and intensive boxing practice he made it.
Last but not the least, Christian Bale is a prime example of true grit. He transformed from one extreme to the other, from playing a lanky malnourished Trevor Reznik in The Machinist to playing the iconic comic-book character Batman. The below picture says it all:
