6 Folk Singers who Graced Bollywood

We all have our own choice of music that we listen to. Music will always speak to all of us in a completely different ways and make us fall in love with it. When we talk about Bollywood music, there are very few songs that sound fresh and different. Only a few songs nothing like a typical Bollywood song. We are talking about the growing trend of folk music, in particular. Folk music reminds us of the culture that we hold so close to our hearts. Folk songs have a very deep meaning to their lyrics and have the power to touch your soul through the melody. In the recent past, Bollywood has seen a variety of folk singers who, with their unmatched voice and music, have won the hearts of many. 
Let's take a look at such few folk singers who have graced us with their soulful voices. 

 

The Wadali brothers
Hailing from Amritsar district, Puranchand Wadali and Pyarelal Wadali have mesmerized the audience with their folk songs. They come from the background of Punjabi folk music and with their powerful voices they have been a part of some soulful songs. This duo has contributed to movies like Pinjar and Tanu Weds Manu. 

Swaroop Khan
Swaroop Khan was among the top 10 contestants of Indian Idol. In 2014, this singer brought Rajasthani folk music to mainstream television. Swaroop Khan has won the hearts of many in Rajasthan and has contributed to the world of Rajasthani folk music in a tremendous manner. He has collaborated with Bollywood for the film PK and the song Tharki Chokoro

Nooran sisters
Trained by their father, Ustad Gulshan Mir, Jyoti Nooran and Sultana Nooran together specialize in Sufi folk music. They got their first break in Bollywood for the song Patakha Guddi from Highway and ever since then, they have delivered many hit songs for films like Sultan and Dangal.

Papon
Born to an Assamese folk singer couple, Papon's love for folk music is incredible. Before he entered the world of Bollywood, Papon contributed heavily to Indian folk-fusion. He has given innumerable hit songs, some of which include Moh Moh ke Dhage (Dum Laga ke Haisha), Labon ka Karobar (Befikre) and Jiyen Kyun (Dum Maro Dum).

Ila Arun
This artist is probably the first one to pop up in your mind when folk music is discussed. From Rajasthani folk to her unique style of mixing folk with pop, Ila Arun has been the voice behind many hits. Among her greatest hits lies Ringa Ring from Slumdog Millionaire's Oscar-winning album. 

Mame Khan
Another gem from Jaisalmer, Mame Khan was born to a family of folk singers. He is a master of Jangra music, which offers songs for every happy occasion. This artist has contributed to Bollywood time and again by singing for movies like No one killed JessicaLuck By Chance and Mirzya.
