One of the first successful mimicry artists, who rose to fame purely because of his talent, celebrates his birthday today. Dileep started his career working as a mimicry artist with a troupe called Kalabhavan, which has produced great talents like the late Kalabhavan Mani, Late Cochin Hanifa, Jayaram, Kalabhavan Shajon and many others. He did a small role in the movie Ennodu Ishtam Koodaamo (1992) but it was the movie Manathe Kottaram (1994) that gave him the first break he needed, as the lead actor.
Dileep rose to fame because of his guy-next-door image and his down-to-earth, attitude which made up for his lack of the typical textbook machismo. Dileep is a complete entertainer and the number of hits he has to his credit is a proof of just that. Let’s have look at some of his best films:
Punjabi House (1998):
This movie was the beginning of his successful career in comedy films, which would release in the following years.
Meesha Madhavan (2002):
Dileep as Meesha Madhavan tickled bones with his comic timing in this blockbuster.
Dileep was amazing in the role of a hunchback with a bucktooth.
Kalayanaraman is a proof that Dileep kept improving with each movie. His comic timing was incredible and could not be matched by any lead actor at that time.
CID Moosa (2003):
Dileep’s role of a detective in this slapstick comedy was instrumental in molding him as a star to reckon with.
Dileep took a role that many lead actors would not have ever considered playing. He did a great job with the character and obviously the movie was loved by all.
On his birthday, we would like to wish him a very happy birthday and we hope to see some more of these comedy movies from him soon.
