60th Cycle Agarbatti Filmfare Awards…

Alok Nath, well you surely thought about babuji and the sanskar that he exudes. All these Alok Nath jokes that made him an overnight social media sensation surely didn’t harm the man at the centre of this attention. Not only did he bag a handful of sanskari roles but also got the opportunity to host the most prestigious film award show. Please don’t let your imagination run wild; he definitely did not get an Oscar invite but a Bollywood equivalent ever the less. Yes, looking at the lukewarm response that the futuristic-themed Filmfare got, the organizers decided to go back to their roots and blended the Indian tradition and culture for the coming season of Filmfare awards and who better than the custodian of traditional values to host the gala event. The father-in-law of the nation, Mr. Alok Nath.

The mandap was set… err… the stage was set for the biggest award show of the year. Alok Nath was given free reign by the organisers and he made sure that everything was as neatly planned as his daughter’s marriage. The 60th Cycle Agarbatti Filmfare Awards was all ready for a divine opening.

Alok Nath had chosen an auspicious and religious day carefully selected by country’s top Pandit and also for the first time awards were held in broad daylight as he did not consider it appropriate for all the beautiful ladies to be out at night. The Red Carpet was also given a miss for a carpet of fresh flower petals with a stream of brightly-lit diyas on both sides. Many guests were unhappy about rose water being sprinkled on their outrageously expensive designer suits. Even the guests were personally handpicked by babuji, Shakti Kapoor and Sunny Leone was not invited for obvious reasons.

The show began with Alok Nath taking the centrestage while Om Jai Jagdish played in the background. Unlike his previous counterparts, babuji did not wear a tuxedo; instead he looked dapper in a maroon kurta-pyjama without any footwear simply because he considered the stage too pure to wear shoes. Every winner was also advised to remove their shoes before coming on to the stage. The show had many outstanding performances by Rekha, Jaya Bachchan, and Neetu Kapoor. Mithoon and Dharmendra mesmerized the audience with their dance moves. Anuradha Paudwal enthralled everyone with her divine voice. Alok Nath also had a little surprise in store. He had arranged the Antakshari straight out of Hum Aapke Hain Koun…? with the same participants. His co-host for the night was the glamorous Reema Lagoo who shimmered in a kanjivaram saree borrowed from Rekha, of course.

The post-award dinner party was replaced by a jagrata. All in all, the award show was a grand hit and everyone went home blessed, all thanks to babuji.
