The Spring/Summer Lakmé Fashion Week 2016 is on and it is creating quite a buzz. The week so far has given us some great works of art. We have celebrated the gems India has, we have celebrated the crafts and the craftsmen. LFW also showed us that ingenuity and fusion always give you great results. And of course, that Bollywood will always be an integral part of the Indian fashion scene. Not that we are complaining. Here are seven defining moments from the first two days of the Lakme Fashion Week.
Bollywood‘s favorite designer proved he is the best we have. He gave Lakme Fashion Week the start it deserved. We loved his stunning designs, especially Jacqueline’s ensemble.
Bollywood was there to applaud their friend
Kareena Kapoor Khan, Farah Khan, Bhumi Pednekar, Pernia Qureshi, Sangeeta Bijlani, Dia Mirza, Zoya Akhtar, Sooraj Pancholi, Shriya Saran– they were all there!
Impressed and how!
Comfort is key! At leisure and comfortable clothing was the mood of the season. From Quirkbox to Doodlage, everyone just wanted to keep it easy.
The St. Regis parking lot became hot property
The talented designer from Hyderabad, Anand Kabra, turned the unfinished parking lot into a runaway! The rough backdrop was in stark contrast with Kabra’s heavily embroidered lehengas, saris and anarkalis.
India’s craftsmanship was celebrated
Five designers showcased five different styles of Indian craft – Aneeth Arora gave us chikankari work, Rajesh Pratap Singh worked with brocade, Anupama Bose gave us leheriya designs, Hemang Agarwal worked with Benarasi weaves, and Asif Shaikh was on Ajrakh.
Mix, match and fuse the world
Wendell Rodricks was in full form! He was something else with fusion clothing. From dhoti-jumpsuit-sari to farshi pyjamas, he just re-defined hybrid fashion in India.
Carol Gracious walking the ramp with her baby bump
It was a delight to see the sexy, tall model walking the ramp for designer Gaurang Shah. She looked pretty, flaunting her baby bump in a pink and green sari.
We are on the right track! What do you think- will the week give us more surprises to smile about?
