The British romantic-drama was also an adaptation of a short story by Hanif Kureishi. Om Puri played the lead role of a taxi driver who has been working hard to make a living all these years while all his companions have become wealthy. He received the best actor award at the Brussels International Film Festival for his work in the film.
East is East (1999)
The film is a comedy-drama about a mixed-ethnicity household headed by a Pakistani father and an English mother. The film received numerous awards for the best film, story, screenplay and direction. The film also had a sequel called West is West (2010).
Charlie Wilson’s War (2007)
An American comedy-drama, the film starred Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts among many others. Om Puri played the role of Zia-ul-haq (6th President of Pakistan). The performances in the films received many nominations, including the Academy Awards.
The Hundred-Foot Journey (2014)
The film is a 2014 American comedy-drama about a feud between two adjacent restaurants in a French town. The film was written by Steven Knight and adapted from a Richard Morais' novel of the same name. The film also starred Helen Mirren, Manish Dayal and Charlotte Le Bon.
