7 Performances That Deserve More Applause

It is said that hard work determines how lucky you are, but this isn't always true. Hard work sure pays off but only when you're lucky enough, it gets noticed and you get the success you deserve. So it is in the Indian film industry that has lately become obsessed with box-office numbers. With the 100-crore clubs, what we miss appreciating are the actors who chose to perform well in the little that they had. And obviously, typecasting also determines majorly where you stand in the industry – either in the star category or in the actor category.

Although racing with hundreds of films that are released every year, many good performances and efforts do go unnoticed, there is no harm in providing them the appreciation they deserved, once in a while. So, let's have a look at seven such performances:

Ranbir KapoorRocket Singh: Salesman of the Year (2009)
Underrated Performances - BookMyShow

Ranbir Kapoor has always been an actor before the star that he is. Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year was a film he did during his initial years in the industry and it didn't really set the cash registers at the box-office ringing. Ranbir showed his potential as an actor by playing the role of an ethical hard working man who decides to start out on his own after being let down by his dishonest employers. His character never missed a beat and showed maturity that many superstars still somehow lack. The film managed a decent fanbase with time but Ranbir's performance, however, remains underrated.

Kareena KapoorKurbaan (2009)

Kurbaan is one movie that marks the first on-screen appearance of Saifeena. The film was highly anticipated with super-hit music but didn't fare particularly well at the box office. One thing however people failed to notice was Kareena's strong character and equally commendable performance. She played the wife of a terrorist and did most of the talking through her eyes. The film had many wow moments, the climax scene being the best of all.

Konkona Sen-SharmaEk Thi Dayan (2013)
Underrated Performances - BookMyShow

If we ignore a little of the second half, Ek Thi Dayan did give all of us creeps and a slight fear of elevators. The character of Diana was so convincing that the fact she was trying to sacrifice kids still haunts us just by Konkana's mention. Although the film couldn't make the box office hoot for the film, the actress gave us nightmares.

Kangana RanautRevolver Rani (2014)
Underrated Performances - BookMyShow

Revolver Rani was released just after Queen and everyone was going gaga calling Kangana the new Queen of Bollywood. While she was very convincing as Alka Singh, a dacoit, the film tanked at the box office. She played a rowdy girl who liked peculiar fashion and big guns equally and was always ready to protect his man from the world. She was her own queen in this film and showed her eccentric best.

Ronit RoyUgly (2014)
Underrated Performances - BookMyShow

The film wasn't a box-office success because it got leaked and faced a hurried release without much promotion. All the praise the film received proves that there cannot be any other possible reason for its failure. All the performances in the movie were on point but the one that truly stood out is the character of Shoumik Bose, a man who is a tough cop on the outside but is deeply hurt inside. Ronit Roy showed both the sides of this character with equal finesse but sadly didn't garner many applauds.

Jimmy ShergillTanu Weds Manu Returns (2015)
Underrated Performances - BookMyShow

Jimmy Shergill from the very beginning of his career has consistently delivered convincing performances and has immensely improved with time. With the number of movies and the kind of roles he has done so far, one wonders why he didn't click as the star lead in Bollywood. Tanu Weds Manu Returns or even the original movie has praised the lead pair so much but the most interesting character of the movie, Raja Awasthi didn't get as much attention as deserved. All his dialogues and the character itself are something that still ring fresh in our minds.

Vicky KaushalRaman Raghav 2.0 (2016)
Underrated Performances - BookMyShow

This thriller is another example of what a powerhouse Nawazuddin Siddiqui is, but what came as more of a surprise was Vicky Kaushal. His role in his debut movie Masaan was an entirely opposite character he played in this one. As a drug-addict and corrupt police officer, Vicky showed his versatility being just as notorious as the criminal he was chasing. He stood out in a movie that starred Nawazuddin, which is an achievement in itself.
