7 Sci-Fi Movies To Watch Before Terminator 2

The iconic film Terminator 2: Judgement Day from 1991 is re-releasing on 15th September in 3D. Terminator 2 is not only considered the best of the series but also one of the best in the genre. If you've already seen the first Terminator in preparation for the sequel (or have read this quick summary) and are itching for some more sci-fi action, watch these movies like Terminator 2.

Total Recall (1990)

This is another one of the best science-fiction movies with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the lead. It's about a construction worker who has disturbing dreams about Mars and a mysterious woman, and the best part is that it also explores the dark side of what the future can turn into, just like Terminator 2.

Last Action Hero (1993)

This is another movie for those who found Arnie the best part of Terminator 2.  It didn't perform well when it released, but now, the meta humor at the core of Last Action Hero perfectly holds up. A boy has a magic ticket that takes him inside his favorite movie which has everyone's favorite action hero – you guessed right, it's Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Robocop (1987)

The feel of Terminator 2 can be matched by very few movies, but Robocop just might be one of them. Robocop is another iconic 80s sci-fi character with a thriving legacy that lasted generations. Arnold Schwarzenegger almost played the role, but we're glad Peter Weller got the chance to become the perfect embodiment of the cyborg cop.

Blade Runner (1982)

Blade Runner is another classic science-fiction film that you are sure to like if you enjoy Terminator 2. It shows a dystopian Los Angeles of 2019 which is filled with genetically engineered replicants that look just like humans. If you need another reason to watch this, it's also getting a new sequel Blade Runner 2049 which will release later this year.

Aliens (1979)

If you like director James Cameron's approach to science-fiction in films like Terminator, Terminator 2 or Avatar, he also directed the first Aliens movie. It's much more terrifying than the other films, but it also gives you memorable characters that you can root for. This might be the perfect movie if you want a gorier science-fiction flick

Westworld (1973)

You might have heard of the HBO series of the same name, but the original Westworld film is also a sci-fi masterpiece. Much like Terminator 2, this film also explored sentient robotics. Plus, it's also directed by Michael Crichton, the guy who wrote the novel Jurassic Park, which went on to become one of the most beloved films of all time.

Ex Machina (2015)

This one is the most recent on the list, so if you're looking for something more modern but still want science-fiction in the vein of Terminator 2, Ex Machina is the film for you. It has a robot that can pass the Turing Test and just might be able to gain consciousness, much like Skynet from Terminator.

Which of these movies like Terminator 2 will you be watching next? Let us know in the comments below.
