These films throw light upon criminal psychologysocial psychology, and more; with most of them being psychological thrillers. Prepare for some mind-bending stuff, with these eight brilliant films.

One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest (1975)
While supposedly a comedy-drama, it is regarded as one of the greatest films ever made due to its psychological setting – a mental institution with a lot of interesting characters, featuring Jack Nicholson with the performance of his career.

Requiem for a Dream (2000)
A classic when it comes to how the mind works – in terms of addiction and mental abuse. This is not just a film about drugs, but so much more.

Mulholland Dr. (2001)
A proper psychological thriller, the film features brilliant performances by Naomi Watts and Laura Harring. This mystical film is a smarty-directed piece by David Lynch.

Fight Club (1999)
When you think about it, it's not about fighting at all. This cult classic directed by David Fincher stars Brad Pitt and Edward Norton, who take the film from being a drama to a thriller which might make you re-think the way you live.

Black Swan (2010)
A pure psychological thriller that dives deep into the darkest places inside an artist's head. Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis shine in a film so murky, it was also classified as a horror.

Seven (1995)
Another David Fincher blockbuster, this one is a crime thriller about a serial killer who uses the seven deadly sins as tropes in his murders. Criminal mind games!

The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
A classic when it comes to horrifying thrillers, it features a brilliant psychiatrist and cannibalistic serial killer. The film won awards for both its leads – Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster.

Jacob's Ladder (1990)
The film follows Jacob, a Vietnam veteran whose experiences before and during the war result in strange flashbacks and bizarre hallucinations that continue to haunt him. Darkness, our old friend.
