9 Trendsetter Bollywood Movies That Broke the Rules

We have all been taught that if something works well you should do it over and over again. Well, Bollywood has learnt that lesson very well. To please all everyone and entertain them all at the same time is truly a commendable feat. Over the years we have seen Bollywood experiment with different kind of stories and many of them were before their time and were only appreciated many years after the release (remember, Andaz Apna Apna?). A few movies that worked started a trend with many jumping in on the bandwagon and piggybacking the popularity. The following movies were such trend-setting movies of their era.

Sholay (1975)
Trendsetters - BookMyShowWith dialogues people still use today, Sholay was one of the many gems which were released in 1975 (the other being Deewar). Sholay also started the trend of out-and-out action movies with a hint of comedy, which the audience seemed to love (a lot!). It is no wonder that this movie is still considered one of the best till date.

Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! (1994)
While the power of the action movies continued, there was a lack of movies which the whole family could enjoy. Enter Rajshri with its
sanskaars and enviable family songs we wished our families would dance to. You now know why the 90's kids are so sanskaari.

Dil Chahta Hai (2001)
We had buddy movies but nothing speaks friendship like a road trip to Goa. Not only was it a go-to place for fashion when it came to college students (and set unrealistic expectations about Goa trips). But it also started a wave of movies which spoke about bromance.

Raaz (2002)
Before Raaz, there were no horror movies for a long time and with the success of Raaz, everyone wanted to do one. Horror became the new go-to genre and everyone wanted a piece of that pie. We got some really good gems like Bhoot but then there were many failures as well.

Jism (2003)

Trendsetters - BookMyShowMahesh Bhatt seems to be the go-to guy when it comes to erotic thrillers and he is the one who started the fad with Jism. After that, we had the Murder series and now a lot of other makers are also trying to attempt this genre.

Shootout at Lokhandwala (2007)
We had a lot of anti-heroes in movies but not many were based on real-life gangsters before that. Shootout at Lokhandwala changed all that with the movie's success a lot of biopics were made on the infamous crooks of Mumbai. You know there are some included in this year's line-up as well like Daddy and Haseena Parkar.

Taare Zameen Par (2007)
Before this movie, terms like dyslexia and other disorders weren't looked at too favorably. And once people started talking about dyslexia, autism and anterograde amnesia soon joined the line. After that, there were many which dealt with brain-related disorders. At least it helped in reducing the stigma attached to these disorders.

Wanted (2009)
If we look at the list of movies that have been adapted from down south, Wanted is certainly not the first. But with the success of Wanted everyone wanted to do that. Even bhai, who realized this formula could work for at least half a decade. Shahid Kapoor and Akshay Kumar were some of the actors who started doing movies inspired from South Indian movies.

The Dirty Picture (2011)
The Dirty Picture was not the first biopic but it was the one which got everyone excited about them and it started a chain of biopics on famous celebs, cricketers and even including some of the best times of our country.
