Bollywood is all about larger-than-life situations and personalities taking over the screen to invoke every human emotion inside the audiences. Most films do a commendable job in being as realistic as possible. However, not all Bollywood movies fulfill our expectations. Sometimes, these films are downright outrageous or senseless to the core. The reasons for being so outrageous and over-the-top can vary but most of the times it is because of the acting debacle by the cast or due to poor direction and a mediocre script.
Here are five such mainstream Bollywood flicks that took direction and acting to an entirely different level. They are so bad, they are good. Watch these movies with your bunch of friends for a good laugh.
Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon (2003)
Now this one takes the cake when it comes to exaggeration. Nobody knows why Pankaj Kapur ended up doing this film? The film starred Kaabil actor Hrithik Roshan as Prem and Kareena Kapoor as Sanjana. Bebo seemed to sport a blend of at least four expressions on her face at any given time. What's with that?
If you have seen the Koffee With Karan episode where Twinkle Khanna accompanies her husband Akshay Kumar on the show, you will know why Mela sealed her fate as a Bollywood actress. Made on the similar lines of Sholay, Mela ended up as a disaster. Twinkle Khanna’s attempt to act went overboard. Her screeches, cries, threats to the village dacoit; everything was just too much for the audiences to bear.
Even the snakes were upset with this film for over-the-top CGI effects. The songs, the makeup, the costumes, the acting, the direction, everything went horribly wrong in this movie. Arman Kohli in his Terminator avatar couldn’t have been more ridiculous. Had Sonu Nigam chosen absolutely any other movie for his debut, who knows what might have been?
It has already been listed by many as one of the worst Bollywood films to have been made ever. Humshakals saw the lead actors Saif Ali Khan, Ram Kapoor and Riteish Deshmukh, playing triple roles (take some time for that to sink in). This "comedy" film failed to make the audience laugh – you had one job, Humshakals.
If making over-the-top films was art, this one would earn the title of a masterpiece. A film by Sajid Khan, Himmatwala saw Ajay Devgn at his hamming best. The film was a remake of an old 80s film that starred the man who made white suits famous, Jeetendra. The remake beat the old one and set new records of being outrageous.
It is highly possible that we would have missed many more outlandish films with equally bizarre acting. If you know more such movies, let us know in the comments section below.
PS: If you plan to watch these films alone, please do it at your own risk.
