The voice, the moves, the clothes- all unmistakably a part of the personality that was Michael Jackson, who was so much more than a public figure. The man was a worldwide phenomenon capable of creating hysteria bordering on insanity.
MJ is one of those celebrities the mysteries of whose life and death will never be known, despite speculations. But no one can deny the brilliance of the man. Where his music and creativity were concerned he was one-of-a-kind. Unmatchable.
The documentary ‘This is it’ shows that side of him – MJ the performer, artist and creator. His vision was extraordinary. The extent to which he had planned the concert, and had every minute detail stored in his mind was awesome. He knew exactly what he wanted from each person working with him and directed them without any references. It would just come from within, his instinct and senses. One can see how involved he was in everything to do with the project. His fans will be able to get a glimpse at his interactions with all the people who collaborated with him, dancers, technicians, producers, creative directors and dancers. It wasn’t about him, he wanted everyone to gave their best on that platform. He was humble and understanding and loved dearly by his entire team.
Through this ‘final curtain call’ MJ wanted to enable his fans to experience his adventure and escape into the fantasy, at the same time reminding them about their social responsibility towards the planet. He knew exactly how to translate his vision so that his audience could feel it the same way. It’s impossible to describe the way he worked. He was so clear about what he wanted that only one explanation was required for his team to understand.
Through the documentary, when he is rehearsing his songs you can see the passion. The music was in his veins and came from his heart. He was the music, right from the beats to the lyrics to the moves. And boy could he move! Even at that age he was fluid and effortless, and not a single one of the young dancers could match the pace, so great was his energy. Listening to the best of his songs, you just want to get up and dance, but he has you transfixed even through those rehearsal videos, and you don’t want to miss a single step.
Watching snippets, it can be vividly imagined what the actual thing would have been like. It makes you smile, cry and laugh at the same time. Touching people he himself remained untouchable and this is a memoir for his fans. In the end, the words etched across the screen are ‘love lives forever’. So will this legend!
