If you’re a keen observer of Tamil cinema, then the news of Rajinikanth signing his upcoming film with a new director would’ve certainly sparked interest in you. This is mainly because Rajinikanth – The superstar, the actor we admire and idolize so much is finally breaking out of his standard system of starring in larger-than-life roles, and is finally working with a new-age director. And there’s another good news, he’s not alone, several other Kollywood stars are signing projects with new-age directors. While some of these directors have made impressive debuts. Others are relatively new.
Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth, Vijay, Vikram and Suriya all have one thing in common: They are all working with new directors. This means they are willing to risk and experiment with their films. Which means, they have the desire to give the audience something new!
Icons like Rajini and Kamal have set the trend! While Rajinikanth’s next is directed by two-film old, Rajesh; Kamal Haasan‘s next film, Thoongaavanam is directed by his assistant, Rajesh M Selva.
Illayathalapathy Vijay is not far behind either. After wrapping up Puli, the actor is all set to work with Raja Rani fame, Atlee, who is only one film old.
Suriya is all set to work with H. Vinoth of Sathuranga Vettai fame. It has to be mentioned that Suriya usually works with established directors, and the prospect of him working with a new director is quite the news. Interestingly, Chiyaan Vikram was said to revive Gautam Menon’s film ‘Dhruva Nachatiram’, but it clearly looks like he has other plans. The versatile actor, doesn’t want to waste time on his pending projects, which is why he has signed director AG Amid’s next film (Rajathandiram fame).
It’s a good sign that stars are willing to experiment and work on new projects! The one thing that’s constant is change. And it looks like our Kollywood celebs are following this policy.
