A New Man: Short Film Review

Are you comfortable being alone? What about right after a break-up?

A New Man is a nine-minutes long dramedy about a man, Charles, who’s broken after his wife leaves him. He’s trapped for a while at home, with the need to get out of the house, but unable to find the want. Until one day, when Charles finds his escape in the form of a breakfast date with himself at the local diner.
A few minutes alone and Charles realises he craves human interaction. He assumes the identity of strangers and what follows is a series of interesting conversations with various people. After all, we all need someone to talk to, if only for a while.
Director Hughes William Thompson directs an interesting story and succeeds in giving us a strong narrative. Though a little dry on the comedy front, the film does manage to make us think about how much we all crave companionship. Russell Saylor as Charles is good and convinces us with his performance.
