Actor-Director Jodis That Were Superhit

There is no one formula to make a successful film. Every actor or filmmaker may try to repeat the style of his or her previous films, though that may or may not work. One can never be certain of the audience’s preferences and hence, even commercial films starring popular actors bomb at the box-office (Read: Katti Batti and Shaandaar!). Having said that, some actor-director combinations have always managed to deliver hits. Even though some of them may not be working together currently, they have built a good reputation and can be called “hit duos”.

Ranbir Kapoor – Ayan Mukerji
In 2009, when Wake Up Sid released many wondered why Ranbir chose to act in the debut film of a director. But the movie was loved by both the critics and the audience. Their next film together was Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and that movie was a blockbuster as well. It even gave Ranbir’s career a big boost. Ayan has already signed the Kapoor scion for his next film which is tentatively titled Dragon.

Shah Rukh Khan – Aditya Chopra
Even though Aditya Chopra has signed Ranveer Singh for his next film, earlier, all his films as director have had Shah Rukh playing the lead. While Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge has become an iconic film and completed twenty years in theatres recently, both Mohabbatein and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi were big hits.

Salman Khan – Sooraj Barjatya
Salman Khan got his first lead role in Sooraj Barjatya’s Maine Pyar Kiya. The film was a superhit and Salman became an overnight star. They later collaborated for Hum Aapke Hain Koun which was one of the biggest hits of 1994. Their next release together is Prem Ratan Dhan Payo and the film will be out this Diwali.
Aamir Khan – Rajkumar Hirani
Aamir Khan has got hits with most directors he’s worked with and that could be credited to his choice of scripts. But both his films with Rajkumar Hirani broke all box-office records and both, 3 Idiots and PK are among the highest grossing films in Bollywood.
