The National Film Awards were held in New Delhi yesterday and the President of India felicitated the winners. While Akshay Kumar took home the Best Actor award for Rustom, Sonam Kapoor’s act in Neerja won her a special mention by the jury. The actors were present at the event and were beaming with pride. We don't blame them as every actor aspires to win this prestigious award. But did Akshay Kumar and Sonam Kapoor really deserve it? Was Akshay's performance in Rustom better than SRK’s in Fan or Aamir’s in Dangal? Shouldn't have Alia Bhatt or Taapsee Pannu been awarded instead of Sonam? These are the questions that only the jury can answer. Insiders say that it was the jury head Priyadarshan’s rapport with Akshay Kumar and Anil Kapoor that influenced the final decision. Here are two more actors whose National Film Award wins came under the scanner.
Everyone thought Shah Rukh Khan would win the National Film Award in 2005 for his portrayal of Mohan Bhargav in Swades. The jury surprised everyone by giving it to Siad Ali Khan for Hum Tum. Like seriously?
Throughout his career, Arjun Rampal has been criticized for being expressionless. Even though he tries hard, his capabilities as an actor are limited. Rock On may have been his breakthrough film but his performance was still not good enough to deserve a National Film Award.
