Bollywood has seen numerous superstars and each of them has a persona of their own. Some of them have an insane fan following and some of them are insanely talented. But amongst all the different attributes that make them the star they are, they all have one thing in common – entertainment. It is easy to be a star with a superhit movie. It helps grab the eyeballs of the filmmakers and viewers at the same time, and all the things fall in place. But there have been many stars who have a huge fan following now but had to make their way into the industry through their hard work.
In a recent interview, Manoj Bajpayee said that he has made a career out of his flop movies. He doesn't disagree with the fact that he has been part of great movies and has delivered good performances but he accepts that he can count his hits on his fingers but the number of flops he is proud of are much more in number.
While Manoj Bajpayee has himself declared that he has made his career out of flop movies, there are many other actors who have had the same kind of career chart. We have listed five of them below:
Bebo's debut movie was Refugee which also marked the debut of Abhishek Bachchan, the much awaited next-gen angry young man of Bollywood. Kareena worked for a number of films after Refugee, like Mujhe Kuh Kehna Hai, Yaadein, Jeena Sirf Mere Liye, Khushi, which were not received well at the box office and a few of them which went well were all multi starer movies. After four years and 12 movies, Kareena did Chameli and since then, there's no looking back for her.
Ranbir is the heartthrob of the nation and Bollywood itself. He is a brilliant actor and a performer, as we have seen in his films all these years. He debuted with a Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial Saawariya along with Sonam Kapoor, and it was not received as well as it was expected. His next release Bachna Ae Haseeno wasn't a box office success either. Ranbir was taken seriously only after his third movie Wake Up Sid for which he got the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor. He is now shooting for Sanjay Dutt's biopic with Raju Hirani.
Shahid is one of the exceptions in this list as his first movie was a super hit and he got the tag of a chocolate hero. However, the next few movies did not do half as well. His next blockbuster was Suraj Barjatya's Vivah and that was seven movies later. It is true that Shahid is an immensely talented actor but the fact that his movies are more appreciated critically than financially is also a truth. Shahid Kapoor is probably the biggest superstar with more than half of his films being mediocre at the box-office.
Very few people know that Aashiqui 2 was Shraddha's third movie, which makes it evident that she had a bad start in the industry. She debuted with Amitabh Bachchan starer Teen Patti and her second movie was Love Ka The End. Both films went unnoticed. But her third movie did wonders to her career and since then she has worked in movies like ABCD 2, Ek Villain, Haider, Ok Jaanu, etc.
Whyis the superstar of the millennium and one of the most successful actors on this list? Yes, he is a legendary actor and people love and admire him all over the world. But since he has been in the industry for almost half a century now, not many people remember his struggle as an actor. Before Zanjeer (1973), he was a part of more than 15 movies and most of those movies didn't do well. But with Zanjeer, Bollywood got the angry young man who ruled the industry for decades.
