Every time they come together to make a film, the hit duo, Mohanlal and Priyadarshan never fail to give us a blockbuster. They are sometimes even referred to as the hit-machine of the Malayalam film industry. With one behind the camera and the other in front of it, the result is almost always splendid. But this does not mean it was always hunky-dory for the duo as they have also had a few colossal flops like Geethanjali (2013). Over the years, they have made some brilliant comedy movies together and these comedy hits are still well liked and appreciated even today. Here are a few of their movies that we think are brilliant:
- Boeing Boeing:
Remember the rib-tickling Garam Masala? Yes, it was directed by Priyadarshan and it was the remake of his super hit Malayalam movie Boeing Boeing (1986) with Mohanlal. In this laugh riot, Mohanlal dates three air hostess with the help of his friend Mukesh. Mohanlal playing the role of a flirtatious guy was hilarious and this film will always be loved by Malayalam film lovers.
This 1988 release will always be imprinted in the minds of the Malayalam film lovers. It is one of the cult classics directed by Priyadarshan. It was one of the highest grosser of Malayalam film industry. Mohanlal plays the role of a young man pretending to be Renjini’s husband. Though the story had a tragic ending, the film is still loved by many as it had brilliant performances from Mohanlal and Sreenivasan.
Kilukkam (1991) is considered to be one of the best comedy movies of Malayalam film industry. Mohanlal as a tourist guide in the beautiful Ootty, master of comedy Jagathy Sreekumar as Mohanlal’s friend and Revathy as a girl pretending to be mentally unstable did a brilliant job. With the number of comical scenes and the dialogues it is a Mohanlal – Priyan film you cannot afford to miss.
Priyadarshan managed to put together all the ingredients of an entertainer like comedy, suspense, and dramain this 1994 blockbuster starring Mohanlal, Shobana, Jagathy Sreekumar, Srinivasan and Thilakan. The movie makes us laugh throughout but it ends tragically, making us cry.
- Thenmavin Kombath:
This Priyadarshan–Mohanlal film deals with a love triangle and stars Shobana and Nedumudi Venu as well. It was the biggest blockbuster of the year 1994 and it even became the highest grossing film.
This timeless 1989 romantic-comedy, with its beautiful and melodious songs, is worth watching.
Mohanlal and Priyan are known for their comedy hits but with Oppam, they entered another genre of movies. This suspense-thriller was sort of a comeback for the actor-director team, as their previous film Geethanjali had bombed at the box-office. And what a comeback it is!
