Intimate scenes have garnered much attention in Bollywood films but what makes these scenes stand out is the sense of aesthetics with which they have been shot.
As a newcomer Arjun Kapoor had no qualms about indulging in a passionate love making scene with Parineeti Chopra in Ishaqzaade. The scene was shot in an abandoned train coach. Both Parineeti and Arjun seemed comfortable in each other’s arms.
In Aurangzeb, Arjun will be getting intimate again and this time with Sasha Agha (daughter of Pakistani singer and actress Salma Aagha). According to sources the intimate scenes were pivotal to the plot and hence both Arjun and newcomer, Salma agreed to do them.
Bollywood has had its fair share of love making scenes, some were aesthetically shot while some were repelling to say the least. Here’s a record of those that showed no signs of vulgarity.
Silsila-Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha
Although there is hardly any skin show in the intimate scene between Rekha and Amitabh. What stands out is the air of esthetic erotica that director Yash Chopra creates..
Jism: Bipasha Basu and John Abraham
John made his debut with Jism and Bipasha too was new to Bollywood when the film released. The love scene that they indulged in was inspired from Hot Shots 2. Bipasha had at that point of time parted ways with Dino Morea, and despite this the new-built in chemistry with John Abraham could only seen to be believed. The duo did nothing less than setting the screen on fire.
Fire: Nandita Das and Shabana Azmi
Deepta Mehta is known for making films that garner controversy. The love-making scenes in Fire between the Azmi and Das had them indulge into more that what was ever shown in Bollywood and that too between the same gender. The scene resulted both in controversy and commercial success of the film.
The Namesake: Tabu and Irrfan Khan
In the film Mira Nair wanted to establish a moment of intimacy between the newly wedded Tabu and Irrfan. Their marital bonding was shown through some kisses and embracing and at no point did it look vulgar.
Parineeta: Vidya Balan and Saif Ali Khan
Parineeta was Vidya’s first film and she displayed a lot more than her commendable acting prowess. An intimate scene between Saif Ali Khan and her was beautifully shot by director Pradeep Sarkar. Balan was her voluptuous self in the scene but donned the role with grace aplenty.
Kurbaan-Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan
Kurbaan‘s promotional stills had Kareena Kapoor posing with Saif Ali Khan, her bare back facing the audience. The stills kept the promise they had made in the film: a lovemaking scene between real life couple Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor with Kareena posing topless on Saif. Although there was no frontal nudity on display, Kareena bared the most in this film, than she ever had.
Intimacy and sex have always been a taboo in Indian cinema. However these films broke the norm and made room for aesthetically exhibiting love-making scenes in Bollywood.
