Aishwarya, Rajinikanth Steal Show at ISL Opening Ceremony

Football fans in India have a fun few weeks ahead in store. The second edition of the Indian Super League is here. The football tournament that had the nation cheering for eight franchise teams was launched last year in a bid to promote the sport in India, identifying young talent, providing them with an appropriate platform and adding the necessary glamour quotient.

The much-awaited tournament began with a bang this year. The gala opening ceremony took place at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai, amidst much fanfare. The second season of ISL kicked-off when Nita Ambani declared the event open. Fans at the stadium witnessed beautiful flares and colorful display of lights during the event. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan‘s breathtaking moves, A.R. Rahman‘s soulful singing and Rajinikanth‘s presence made this event bigger than ever.  Here are the top 5 moments from the ISL Opening Ceremony:
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan put her fans in a state of frenzy when she began her performance. Dressed in a royal maroon lehenga, the gorgeous diva channeled her inner desi avatar. She danced to her hits numbers such as Dola Re Dola and Crazy Kiya Re. Husband and actor Abhishek Bachchan is of course, the co-owner of Chennaiyin FC.
Alia Bhatt wowed the crowd with her dance performance. She danced to her hit numbers like The Disco Song and Radha. She also grooved to the ISL’s theme song – Let’s Football
A.R. Rahman mesmerized the audience with his performance.
Rajinikanth‘s charismatic presence at the event was the highlight though. The superstar waved at the crowd, and walked to the podium in his signature style.  The euphoria was unmatched. He also met Amitabh Bachchan and Sachin Tendulkar
Remember Ellen DeGeneres‘ selfie from the Academy Awards 2014 featuring popular Hollywood stars? Actor Arjun Kapoor pulled off an Ellen at the ceremony when he took a similar selfie with Rajinikanth, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Nita Ambani, Alia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor
