Alegría – The Festival of Joy: Getting Bigger & Better!

Mumbai get ready for an amazing weekend filled with classic movies at the Satyajit Ray Film Festival and triple doze of music at Alegría – The Festival of Joy. All you movie and music fans be prepared to spend a weekend full of fun, movies, music and masti.

Satyajit Ray Film Festival organized by the Enlighten Film Society will showcase three classics by the renowned filmmaker, Satyajit Ray. The three movies that will be screened at the film festival are part of the director’s famous ‘The Apu Trilogy – Pather Panchali, Aparajito and Apur Sansar’. Along with these three movies, the festival will also screen an acclaimed British short film ‘Before I Was Me’ by Laila Khan followed by a Q&A session as part of the Short Screen section. Made on a meager budget, the films are the finest examples of parallel cinema and went on to win seven National Awards along with several other awards at the Cannes, Berlin and Venice film festival. Happening on January 26, 2013, 12 pm onwards at the Russian Center for Science and Culture, Peddar Road, Mumbai, definitely be a part of the Satyajit Ray Film Festival.

Those of you who enjoy music more than classic films, don’t be disheartened. There is something really exciting happening for you next week. Its the college fest, Alegría – The Festival of Joy. Offering a 3-in-1 mega entertainment combo, Alegria Festival claims to be the biggest collegiate festival of Navi Mumbai.

4 days filled with music, dance and sheer fun, ‘Alegría – the Festival of Joy’ presented by Mahatma Education Society’s Pillai Group of Institutions will take place at  Dr. K. M. Vasudevan Pillai’s Campus, New Panvel from 28th January to 1st February, 2014. It is a multi-institution mega festival, dedicated towards providing a platform for students to showcase top quality talents in various backgrounds. Bringing modern sensibilities to Indian aesthetic traditions, the college festival has opted to celebrate the beauty of India with ‘Indie Ishtyle’ theme.

This happening and exciting event will be featuring Farhan Akhtar, Yo Yo Honey Singh, DJ Yves V and DJ Wolf Pack along with Elli Avram of Bigg Boss fame and Ashwini Ponnappa, Olympic and Commonwealth gold medallist. Starting with Farhan Akhtar’s rocking performance,  Alegría – The Festival of Joy will come to close with DJ Wolf Pack and DJ Yves V’s smashing EDM night.

With various college fests like Malhar, Umang, Mood Indigo and Mumbai University’s Fest happening every year, there a new contender in the race to be the biggest collegiate festival Mumbai has ever seen or experienced.
