All About Sarbjit

2016 has to be the year of biopics in Bollywood. The first biopic of the year was Neerja and the movie was a superhit. People absolutely loved the film that was based on the heroics of the air hostess, Neerja Bhanot. This month, there’ll be two biopics releasing back-to-back. While the Emraan HashmiPrachi DesaiNargis Fakhri starrer Azhar will be out on May 13th, Sarbjit, starring Randeep Hooda, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and Richa Chaddha releases on May 20th. The latter has created a lot of hype and the lead cast is going around town, promoting the film. As a part of the promotional activities, Aishwarya and Randeep recently shot for an episode of The Kapil Sharma Show, too. Read on to know more about this upcoming movie.

PlotSarabjit Singh - BookMyShow

Like the title suggests, the movie is based on the life of Sarabjit Singh. The man was an Indian National who was tried and convicted by the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Singh was accused of being a spy and was imprisoned for years. The film will capture Sarabjit’s life, both before and after his arrest.

Randeep Hooda’s transformationRandeep Hooda Sarbjit - BookMyShowTo look the part of a bruised, ailing prisoner, Randeep Hooda lost oodles of weight. The actor consumed just around 500 calories per day and was almost unrecognisable in a picture he shared online. The crash diet seemed to have taken a toll on his health as he complained of dizziness on the sets.

The director

Omung Kumar’s debut film was Mary Kom, the biopic of the famous boxer. Produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the 2014 film managed to earn a decent amount of money. However, the critics gave Mary Kom a thumbs-down as it barely focused on the boxer’s achievements. We hope that’s not the case with Sarbjit.

The supporting castRandeep Hooda, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and Richa Chadha will enjoy most of the screen time in this latest film. Apart from these three actors, Darshan Kumaar, Ankita Shrivastav, Shivani Saini and Ankur Bhatia will also be seen in Sarbjit. Kumaar has worked with Omung previously as he played the role of Priyanka Chopra‘s husband in Mary Kom.
