Come February 24th, 2013 and the whole world will be tuned in to see who wins the coveted golden trophy. The most prestigious award Hollywood professionals wish toreceive and are remembered by.
Already embroiled in controversy over the nominees, 2013’s Oscar night will definitely attract far more eyeballs than expected.
Here are the much talked about Oscar snubs and the list of nominees for the top categories:
What a shame: Ben Affleck- the man who bagged the best director’s trophy at the equally respected Golden Globe ceremony was completely snubbed by the Academy. Rumor has it: pity votes will take Argo to a swift victory for the best picture category.
Not again: Another side-eye goes to Leonardo DiCaprio not being nominated for his convincing portrayal of the villain in Django Unchained. Not again? The charming, sensitive actor who can kick some serious a*s even in negative roles seems to have tough luck when it comes to awards. However, Christoph Waltz, for the same movie was recognized for his supporting role.
How miserable: Tom Hooper, previous year’s winner for best director (The King’s Speech) wasn’t recognized even with a nomination for his mesmerizing adaptation of Les Miserables. Another snub after Ben Affleck for Argo.
Best Picture: Amour, Argo, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Django Unchained, Les Misérables, Life of Pi, Lincoln, Silver Linings Playbook, Zero Dark Thirty.
Best Actor in a Leading Role: Bradley Cooper, Daniel Day-Lewis, Hugh Jackman, Joaquin Phoenix, Denzel Washington.
