The Angry Birds Movie: Film Review – Never Mess With Birds!

Verdict: The best bacon and eggs mix you could wish for.
We’ve heard of movies being based on books or comic series. There have also been a fair amount of movies on video games, especially after the successful Mortal Kombat and Resident Evil franchises. But for the first time, Rovio Animation and Sony Pictures Imageworks have come together to create a movie based on a popular mobile phone app. We’re talking about your favorite mobile game – Angry Birds – that took the world by storm seven years ago. Within a year of release, 12 million copies of the game were purchased online. Now the furry little birds are back, this time on the big screen, and they’re just as colorful, fun and angry as you can expect!
The Angry Birds Movie revolves around the birds of Bird Land, a peaceful island inhabited by mindless, happy little birds. On this island lives Red (voiced by Jason Sudeikis), a grumpy, cynical bird who lives by the sea, away from the village. Red’s grumpiness makes him a social pariah among the birds of Bird Land, due to which he receives the worst punishment ever – anger management! In therapy, he meets an unusually fast Chuck (voiced by Josh Gad) and a volatile Bomb (voiced by Danny McBride), and they eventually become friends. Red does not make much progress in anger management, which causes the other birds in the village to despise him even further. When Bird Land is visited by a drove of pigs from an unknown land, the birds give them a warm welcome, while only Red is suspicious of their true motives. So, Red seeks help from the only one who can keep the birds safe – The Mighty Eagle (voiced by Peter Dinklage).
Still from The Angry Birds Movie - BookMyShow

The movie is as cute and funny as anyone would expect, and surprisingly even smart. While the narrative keeps the audience engaged, the action and comedy keep them entertained. However, the film is more than just a gimmick. A simple story has been well-adapted and inlaid with many pop culture references to keep the laughs coming. The movie does go the Disney route of having black-and-white characters, but the pigs are as much fun to watch as the birds, if not more, and their mix is one big, crazy fest. Similarities from the game are also seen, such as the use of the slingshot to fling the flightless birds into the pigs’ fortresses. In the end, the movie has a hero, and he is not your regular brave, kindred, happy soul, but an angry little bird, who wants nothing more than a peaceful life in his little house with the occasional outbursts of rage.
Why You Should Watch The Movie

The happiness of the birds is contagious. This movie is the perfect watch after a particularly annoying week, spent in the company of humans. Take a break and hang out with some happy birds and crafty pigs instead. We guarantee you’ll have the time of your life!
