After watching ‘Anjaana Anjaani’ I have to say it’s appropriately titled. Not for the protagonists but the story which for the longest time seems to be heading nowhere. Well of course, Akash (Ranbir Kapoor) and Kiara (Priyanka Chopra) are very confused too.
The pair meets in a rather unusual manner- trying to commit suicide on the same bridge-which has you hoping the following two hours would follow suit. These hopes start receding as the pair wastes time flippantly talking about suicide and seriously trying to do it. Till one has a sort of epiphany, and brings in the ‘Fate’ angle.
So the lonesome twosome decides to fulfill their bucket lists before their final attempt at suicide 20 days hence. Bubbly Kiara teaches the grave Akash a few lessons in ‘fun’. A couple of hilarious moments in the Atlantic Ocean and en route to Vegas manage to lift the spirits a bit.
The characters alternate between extreme joy and wallowing in self pity. The mood swings are aided by numerous songs leading up to the very predictable end.
Neither of the characters seem definite and imbibe each other’s characteristics as the movie flows. Ranbir and Priyanka are brilliant actors individually, but in this movie just seem wasted and don’t conjure even a spark. Candy floss all the way with very few believable or original moments.
The movie seems like a mish-mash of a few Hollywood films with some bland masala.
