Cinematic universes have become a huge thing in the last decade. They work better than franchises because they are required to have only a remote connection to the movies in the same cinematic universes. Marvel and DC are obviously the kings when it comes to their cinematic universes with plans to release movies for the next five years at least. Universal has always come up with their dark cinematic universe uniting their greatest villains. Another cinematic universe seems to be making a huge splash in the horror movies category. Yes, we are talking about The Conjuring universe and adding to the universe is their latest movie Annabelle: Creation. Annabelle: Creation is all set to hit the theatres this Friday and the trailer proves to be scarier than its predecessors unveiling a mystery which has puzzled us for the last three movies.
The Conjuring movies were known for their jump scares and introducing us to many other horror artifacts which have the potential for their own movies. The Nun from the second movie is also going to get her own movie but Annabelle is ahead of her with two movies. As the title suggests, this movie is about the creation of this horrifying doll. The time period when this story is set is not specified but it looks like decades before Ed and Lorraine Warren got their hands on the doll. Samuel (Anthony LaPaglia) and Esther Mullins (Miranda Otto) suffer a tragic blow when their daughter Bee (Samara Lee) is killed in an accident. Many years later, they allow some girls to stay in their house while they are waiting to be adopted. But all is not well in the house and it doesn't take long for the house to go from safe, warm home to a terrifying hell.
The movie is directed by David Sandberg, who is well known for his directorial debut Lights Out. With the track record of the movies in the universe and the liberty to do whatever they please, they are drifting away from Ed and Lorraine Warren's (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) life stories. James Wan who directed the first two Conjuring movies is directing this one. The success of Annabelle: Creation can lead to more fictional stories based on the artifacts we saw in the original Conjuring movies and we cannot wait for that.
