Australia’s Tour of England Roundup

Australia’s tour of England has just ended and what a good two months of cricket it has been. First, a five-match Ashes Test series, followed by a T20 match, and again a five-match ODI series. We cricket fans couldn’t have asked for more. With regards to the Ashes Test Series, Australia lost to the home team by a margin of 3-2 games. The single T20 match was won by England, too. Australia finally salvaged some pride by taking the ODI series 3-2. All in all, it was an exciting tour as both the teams played some fantastic cricket. Like every tour, this one, too, had its share of controversies and spectacular moments. Here are the highlights of the Australia-England 2015 series:

Stuart Broad’s 8 for 15

In the fourth test at Trent Bridge, Stuart Broad ripped through the Australian batting lineup. Australia were bowled out for a mere sixty runs. After that, they couldn’t recover and ended up losing the Test in just three days. Stuart Broad was adjudged the Man of the Match for his lethal spell that helped England regain the coveted Ashes’ urn.

Ben Stokes’ Dismissal

At the second ODI, England batsman, Ben Stokes was given out for obstructing the field. This happened after he put his hand out to stop Mitchell Starc’s throw at the stumps. Stokes claimed that he did it to save himself from getting hit by the ball and Australian captain Steve Smith received a lot of flak for not withdrawing the appeal.

Glenn Maxwell’s Catch

At the fourth ODI in Headingley, Glenn Maxwell took a stunning catch to dismiss English batsman, Liam Plunkett. The catch was taken at the boundary line and Glenn caught the ball while hanging in midair after being on the wrong side of the ropes. Again, there was a debate about such catches being accepted in cricket.

Michael Clarke’s Retirement

After England regained the Ashes at Trent Bridge, Australian captain Michael Clarke announced his retirement from Test cricket. He decided to play the last match and since Australia won it, Clarke could end his career on a high. Michael said that the decision was made for the betterment of the team and Steve Smith was appointed the new captain.
