10 times Shah Rukh Khan was the undisputed King of Bollywood

June 25, 1992. Seems like a fairly ordinary date, right? Well, it wasn't.

It was the day that a star – arguably, Bollywood's biggest star – made his Bollywood debut. Though Shah Rukh Khan has come a long way since Deewana, some things still haven't changed. Even his debut, where he played the second lead, was one of the biggest blockbusters of the year.

Today, he is no stranger to breaking box office records and charming audiences everywhere – both on and off the screen. To celebrate 25 golden years of Shah Rukh Khan, we decided to take a walk down memory lane. Here are 10 times SRK was the undisputed King of Bollywood:

1. When he made dancing on a moving train look like the easiest thing in the world:

2. Actually, when he made trains look cool in general:

3. When he made us root for a stalker… How did he manage to do that?

4. When he showed us the only thing better than one Shah Rukh Khan:

5. When he taught every '90s and early 2000s kid the meaning of love.

6. When he did the namumkin – gave remarkable performances in remakes.

7. When one simple name uttered by him gave us chills:

8. When he made failure seem like the best thing that could ever happen to a person:

"Kabhi kabhi kuch jeetne ke liye kuch haarna padta hai, aur haar kar jeetne waale ko Baazigar kehte hain."

Because who doesn't want to be a Baazigar?
9. When he showed us that all our dreams can come true:

"Kehte hain ki… Agar kisi cheez ko dil se chaaho toh puri kayanat ussey tum se milaane ki koshish mein lag jaati hai."

10. Every time he released a film… Because he's Shah Rukh Khan.

Whether he's taking on a serious subject or showing off his comic timing, one thing is for sure – Shah Rukh Khan never fails to dazzle us with his performances. It's been a great 25 years, and here's hoping for 25 more!

Don’t Try These Romantic Gestures at Home

It’s that time of the year again when everyone gets mushy and goes out of their way to be romantic. Valentine’s Day, after all. And it’s a good thing, for the most part. After all, who doesn’t love grand gestures?

And no one makes it grander than Bollywood. However, it’s safe to say that the film industry pushes things a little too far sometimes. This is why you need to be cautious when you try to recreate your favorite romantic moments from Bollywood. If you’re looking to B-Town for romantic inspiration, here are five things you should definitely NOT do:

This scene taught many youngsters about the one thing you need to add some magic to your relationship – rain. What Karan Johar didn’t mention is that dancing in the rain only works in movies. In India, you’d be hard pressed to find such open space to get down as it pours. Space that isn’t already flooded and with questionable garbage items floating, that is. There would also probably be at least 30 people scampering for shelter under the gazebo. So if you go through with this, prepare to have an audience followed by not necessarily applause.

Jaa, Simran, jaa. Jee le apni zindagi.

…If you can get into the train in one piece!

A train date a la Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge would be a great idea. Not only will it feel magical and romantic, but you can also save lots of money on traveling. Unfortunately, stretching your arm out would be a little risky, because of the sheer number of people that would grab on in an attempt to board the train. This isn’t going to be the best idea, unless you manage to find an empty train. And that’s never going to happen. Also, never forget…TO STOP TRAIN, PULL CHAIN!

If there’s one gift you can’t go wrong with, it’s flowers. In Chandni, Rishi Kapoor‘s character took this to a whole new level by making it rain rose petals. Unlike the rest of the gestures on this list, this one didn’t even work in the film. Though he won over his lady, it came at the cost of all his motor functions. If your loved one is that special to you, go ahead. But we’d save this one for at least the third date. Brace yourself, wheelchair is coming!

There’s a reason why "My dog ate my homework!" is such a popular excuse. As much as you may love your furry friend, relying on him to pass on any love letters may not be the best idea in the world. Even if he gets it to the recipient in one piece, it’s going to be covered in doggy drool. And that’s not very romantic, is it? Remember, the elder brother almost married his younger bro’s babe. Not cool, bro! Blame it all on that dog who thought he was a cricket umpire too.

Anushka Sharma‘s character in Rab Ne Bana De Jodi lit up SRK’s world. So, it only seems fair that he would want to return the favor, quite literally. But this gesture would be impossible to pull off, unless you’re an Ambani. If you do manage to find people who will cooperate with you, you will probably have to pay their electricity bills… Unless there’s a blackout in town, which is equally likely.

Now that you know what NOT to do, we hope you have a very happy Valentine’s Day!

Deadpool: Film Review – The Hero We Deserve

Verdict: The perfect blend of action and comedy.

There are some things everyone expects before heading to watch a superhero film. The tragic backstory, the damsel in distress, the battle between good and evil and the conflicted but well-intentioned hero who saves the day. If you thought these tropes will help you figure out Deadpool, think again. He may be super, but he's no hero.

Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds), a former Special Forces operative, meets Vanessa Carlysle (Morena Baccarin) while he works as a mercenary. They fall in love, and things start looking up in his otherwise bleak life. And then he is diagnosed with multiple organ cancer. Fortunately, Wade is offered a cure – one that will not only heal him, but also give him powers that other men wish for. But every cure comes at a price. In Wade's case, the price he must pay is looking completely "unf*#%able". What follows is the search for the only doctor that can make him look normal again and, in turn, help him get the girl.

Right from the cheeky opening credits, it becomes obvious that Deadpool isn't your run-of-the-mill Marvel movie. The film takes every comic book movie stereotype and turns it on its head. But that's not all. Deadpool also makes it a point to mock every cliche that is in the very film. Nothing is safe from his ire, right from Deadpool's biggest nemesis, Wolverine, to Ryan Reynolds' acting ability! The result is a hilarious film that breaks the fourth wall (and on occasion, the sixteenth wall) and makes self-referential humor trendy again.

Though he may not have made a great Green Lantern (which this film acknowledges), Ryan Reynolds was born to play Deadpool. He effortlessly delivers one zinger after another, doing full justice to the Merc with a Mouth. It also helps that he's backed by a great supporting cast, which most notably includes Ed Skrein, Morena Baccarin and Brianna Hildebrand.

Deadpool may not be a typical superhero movie, but it does have the high-octane action to be one. The film features some of the most thrilling (and often, amusing) action sequences we've seen in years. It is also unapologetically gory and realistic (at least as realistic as a science fiction film gets). Combine these action-packed scenes with the film's remarkable OST and you have a movie that can be enjoyed by both comic book fans and people who are indifferent to superhero culture.

That being said, the film might turn off the faint of heart. It features gratuitous crotch shots, crass humor and a whole lot of gore. If you're looking for a conventional superhero movie, Deadpool might not be the right choice. But if you're looking for something different but equally entertaining, don't miss this one.

Why You Should Watch this Movie:
Deadpool is the perfect movie to help you get over blockbuster fatigue. It features one of Ryan Reynolds' best performances to date, combined with meta humor and a great soundtrack. Give Deadpool a chance, even if you aren't a fan of comic book adaptations.

The Valentine’s Day Playlist for Singles

If you’re not having fun being single, then you’re not doing it right.

Every singleton needs to embrace this mantra from How to Be Single. We know though how it can get difficult around Valentine’s Day, when love songs and heart-shaped candies are everywhere. Is the season of love making you feel blue? We have just the cure for that – the perfect playlist. After all, there’s no therapy quite as good as music.

The best part? We’ve made sure that you don’t have to make the effort to curate the right songs. Here are five tracks that every person who is single this Feb 14 needs to have on their playlist:

I’m Free – The Rolling Stones

Everyone knows that the best part of being single is the freedom. So, don’t forget to play this song whenever you want, because you can.

Dancing On My Own – Robyn

Going solo has never sounded as good as it does on Robyn’s hit song.

Marriage is for Old Folks – Nina Simone

The name of the song says it all, doesn’t it? The next time your family pesters you to get married, just play this one.

Forever For Her (Is Over For Me) – The White Stripes

We’ve all been in at least one relationship that seems like it inspired this song. Don’t just take our word for it; press play and see for yourself.

Love Is a Losing Game – Amy Winehouse

During those weak moments when the sadness threatens to rear its ugly head, Amy will remind you why it’s best to stay single.

5 Reasons Why the Kapoor & Sons Trailer Is a Hit

Every family has its quirks, but if the Kapoor & Sons trailer is any indication, the Kapoor family might just be the craziest of them all!

The first trailer for the highly-anticipated film gives us a glimpse into the dysfunctional Kapoor family. It takes us on a roller-coaster ride that we can all relate to. Just like us, the Kapoors laugh, cry and go through everything in between. But things like old age, lost love and betrayal take their toll, threatening to tear the family apart. Will their love remain intact? We’ll find out soon!

Until then, here are 5 reasons why the Kapoor & Sons trailer is a HIT:

1. In under three minutes, the trailer made us laugh, tear up and more. It looks like this might be one of the few films that actually lives up to the label "dramedy".

2. Unsurprisingly, Alia Bhatt‘s chemistry with Sidharth Malhotra is off-the-charts. However, her scenes with Fawad Khan look promising as well. We don’t know if we’re #TeamSidharth or #TeamFawad yet, but we’re looking forward to finding out!

3. If there’s one thing Sidharth Malhotra is good at, it’s playing an onscreen brother. His scenes with Akshay Kumar in Brothers were spectacular, and it looks like his rapport with Fawad Khan is going to be a highlight of Kapoor & Sons.

4. Two words: Rishi Kapoor. It seems like the actor is going to be an absolute delight in the film, and undoubtedly our favorite (fictional) Kapoor.

5. Most films showcase the happy, lovey-dovey side of family life. But everyone knows that things aren’t always smooth-sailing in real-life families. We love how the Kapoor & Sons trailer shows us a real family, without making the family too dysfunctional.

After this amazing trailer, the only thing on our minds is, "How many days to March 18?"

Taandav: Short Film Review

We’ve all, at one point of time or another, have been so overwhelmed by life that we just stopped caring. No film has depicted this feeling as beautifully as Devashish Makhija‘s Taandav.

The short film follows Head Constable Tamble (Manoj Bajpayee) who has just had enough. From a family that won’t talk to him to friends who feel betrayed by him, he’s had a rough couple of days. But that’s not all, Tambe has also been assigned duty at the Ganpati visarjan. It seems as if life is just pushing him until he reaches his breaking point…but will he?

Dark comedy has rarely been done as well as it has in Taandav. The short film explores a variety of themes, most notably the struggles of the aam aadmi. But these struggles go way beyond the struggle for survival that most films depict. In just eleven minutes, the film talks about corruption, morality and the art of letting go. In other hands, this could’ve been a recipe for disaster. Fortunately, that is not the case for Taandav.

Once again, Manoj Bajpayee shows us why he’s one of the most underrated actors in the country. He manages to showcase both, the restrained and over-the-top sides of his character, with great finesse. The actor has spoken about how passionate he is about Taandav, and it shows in his performance. In fact, his work makes it hard to fully appreciate the supporting cast – because you just can’t peel your eyes off Bajpayee!

But that’s not all. The short film, directed by Devashish Makhija, also features a fantastic soundtrack by Nucleya. The musician, whose tunes have taken the country by storm, adds a local flavor to his signature heavy bass tunes, which will make viewers want to join in the taandav!

All this and more makes Taandav a short film that you must not miss. Watch it here, if you haven’t already:

Pineapple Calamari: Short Film Review

Many films have been made about aspiration- some dark and gritty, others warm and fuzzy. If there’s one short that strikes the perfect balance between these extremes, it’s Pineapple Calamari.

The delightful stop-motion short film follows a horse who dreams of becoming a racing champion. However, a tragic accident threatens to change everything for him. What follows is a story that is both beautiful and absurd in its depiction of the pursuit of dreams.

Pineapple Calamari effortlessly does what so many feature films have struggled to do. The film takes a ludicrous tragedy and puts a heart-warming spin on it. The result is Kasia Nalewajka‘s magical short film that makes you laugh, cry and everything in between.

All this, combined with its brilliant animation style, makes Pineapple Calamari one of the most enchanting short films to be released in recent years. If you only watch one short film this week, make sure it’s this one:

Super Bowl? More Like Super Bey!

Everyone knows that the actual game is far from the most exciting thing about the Super Bowl. And this year was no exception. From TV spots for upcoming films like X-Men: Apocalypse and The Jungle Book to a star-studded halftime show, there was something to keep everyone entertained. This year’s headliners, Coldplay, featured two very special guests in their performance – Beyonce and Bruno Mars. And if you’ve watched the show, or been on Twitter, you know that the guest stars stole the show!

Coldplay kickstarted the evening with hits like Viva La Vida and Paradise. But it wasn’t until Bruno Mars entered with Uptown Funk that the party really got started. The singer showed off his smooth moves and power-packed vocals in a performance that was just cool as Bruno himself. Don’t believe me? Just watch:

Just when we thought things couldn’t get more exciting, Beyonce marched in, and her outfit reminded us of another iconic Super Bowl performance:

Not only did Bey perform her amazing new song, Formation, but she also made falling seem cool:

How does she do it?? Then things got even more exciting, as Beyonce and Bruno had a dance-off. Yes, you read that right. Beyonce and Bruno Mars had a dance-off at the Super Bowl. No big deal.

The best part? We’re not the only ones ‘bowled’ over by Bey and Bruno. Chris Martin took the stage with them to close off an epic halftime show, and he looked totally fine with being upstaged. But hey, who wouldn’t be happy just to share a stage with two of the most iconic musicians of our time?

Welcome to Fan-tasyland!

We all have something that we’re passionate about. Whether it’s a band, a TV show or a movie series, it’s easy to get carried away by an obsession. But it’s safe to say that some fanbases take things a little too far… From camping outside celebrities’ houses to sending death threats to their significant others, we’ve all read the horror stories.

Thankfully, most fans are much more tame than that, and restrict themselves to coining hilarious fanbase names. While we’ve all heard of the ‘Beliebers‘ battling it out with the ‘Directioners‘, they’re far from the only groups with their own names. Don’t believe us? Here are 7 strange names that’ll crack you up:

Artists: The Wanted

Everyone loves having a tight-knit community that is passionate about the same thing as them. The Wanted‘s fan base went out of their way to make every fan feel like they belong by naming themselves the ‘Fanmily‘. Though we’re not too keen on the name, it’s certainly better than what singer Tom Parker had in mind – ‘Prisoners‘. Yikes!

Artist: Mariah Carey

Some of us are guilty of idolizing stars to the point where they seem like God. But Mariah Carey‘s very dedicated fans have taken it one step further by calling themselves ‘Lambs‘, as in ‘Lambs of God’. Though we do agree that some of the notes she hits are downright divine, we’re still not sure how we feel about the name.

Artist: Miley Cyrus

Born as Destiny Hope Cyrus, everyone’s favorite controversial popstar got the name Miley because she was such a happy and smiley child. It seems fitting that her fans took this bit of information and decided to run with it, going so far as to call themselves ‘Smilers‘!

The Hive
Artist: Beyonce

Who runs the world? Queen Bee Bey! So it’s only fair that her followers would form The Hive. But the names of their leaders are far from the only thing the two groups have in common. Say anything less than positive about Beyonce and a swarm from The Hive will attack you!

Artist: Ed Sheeran

There was initially some debate about what Ed Sheeran‘s fans should be called. While some preferred ‘Sheeranators‘, others chose to be known as ‘Sheerios‘. But Ed decided to settle the matter himself, when he tweeted "i get asked all the time what my fans call themselves. i approve of sheerios, i like that one". We’re glad that’s cleared up, although we are craving Cheerios now!

Artist: Austin Mahone

Don’t you wish you could be homies with your favorite singer? Maybe if you were as proactive as Austin Mahone‘s fans, you could’ve been. They named themselves ‘Mahomies‘, a term that spread like wildfire. In fact, the singer has since started referring to them by that name, and has also gone so far as to name his merchandise website the same!

Rihanna Navy
Artist: Rihanna

Remember when Rihanna played a Naval officer in Battleship? Yeah, neither do we. But maybe that’s why we’re not on the Navy. Ever since her appearance in the 2012 film, her fans have started calling themselves ‘Rihanna’s Navy‘, even launching countless fan sites with the name.

These are just a few of the funniest fan bases around. Do you belong to one, too?

Where Are They Now: Bigg Boss Edition

Half the fun of watching Bigg Boss lies in the speculation. From wondering who’s going to be kicked out each week to who’s going to win it all, there’s certainly enough to keep us entertained. But the fun doesn’t stop once the season’s over. That’s when all eyes are on the new winner, as everyone tries to figure out what their next move is going to be.

Prince Narula, who won Season 9 of the hit show, is already making headlines and we’re excited to see what he’s going to do next. As we wait to find out, let’s revisit the careers of former Bigg Boss winners and see what they’ve been up to since their big victory:

Rahul Roy

Before he entered the Bigg Boss house, Rahul Roy was most famous for his work in Aashiqui. Unfortunately, that hasn’t changed much since his stint in the house. Though the actor has starred in films like 2B or Not to B and Crime Partner since then; they have failed to make any significant difference to his popularity.

Ashutosh Kaushik

The former Roadies winner made the Bigg Boss audience fall in love with him, and he capitalized on it with appearances on shows like Comedy Circus and Kitchen Champion. He also had a brief Bollywood stint, which didn’t amount to much. But hey, Ashutosh is rumored to have four films lined up for 2016; so things might just change!

Vindu Dara Singh

Crowned a "Bade Dil Wala" by his fellow Bigg Boss participants, Vindu Dara Singh’s career did witness something of a revival after his stint in the house. Since then, the actor has been seen in films like Himmatwala, Son of Sardaar and Housefull 2, among many others. He has also had a steady stream of appearances on TV shows like Welcome – Baazi Mehmaan Nawazi Ki and Mrs. Kaushik Ki Paanch Bahuein.

Shweta Tiwari

Shweta Tiwari had already carved her niche in the television industry before she entered the Bigg Boss house. Her attempts to break into films after Bigg Boss 4 did not go as well, though she was seen in Hindi, Marathi and Urdu films. Shweta has since returned to her roots, appearing on shows like Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 6, Begusarai and Comedy Nights with Kapil, and her TV career is going strong.

Juhi Parmar

The lovely actress became India’s sweetheart when she appeared in and as Kumkum. A decade after that, she won the nation’s heart (and votes) on Season 5 of Bigg Boss. Though we would’ve loved to see more of her, the actress has laid low since then, and has only made a brief appearance on the hit show, Santoshi Maa.

Urvashi Dholakia

Just like fellow soap opera icon Juhi Parmar, Urvashi Dholakia has kept a low profile since her time on Bigg Boss. She now stars in Badi Door Se Aayi Hai, the delightful show about an alien family’s exploits on earth.

Gauhar Khan

One of the more successful Bigg Boss winners, Gauhar Khan was mostly known for her special appearances in Bollywood films before she entered the Bigg Boss house. However, the actress was most recently seen in Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3. She is also a part of the cast of Zangoora, the Bollywood musical. You go, Gauhar!

Gautam Gulati

Gautam Gulati is undoubtedly one of the most controversial Bigg Boss winners of all time. So, it’s no surprise that the bad boy now has his very own TV show. In MTV Big F, the star takes us into the world of forbidden fantasies. Though the show is a big hit, it’s still too soon to tell if Gautam will make it in the long run.

As for Prince Narula, it looks like we’re going to find out soon. What do you think the Bigg Boss 9 winner’s next move is going to be? Tell us in the comments!
