Romantic Films with Not So Happy Endings

No matter how mushy they are, we all at some point of time in our lives have loved watching romantic films. Boy meets girl, they fall in love, followed by a brief separation and then a happy ending – it’s a perfect formula. But what if there is no happy ending? What if we tell you not all love stories are fairytale-like? If just the thought of these questions upsets you, then you probably wouldn’t enjoy the following movies. But a little bit of reality won’t kill you, right? 😉

So this week, swap those cliched romantic dramas for a series of happily-never-afters:
Casablanca (1942)
A timeless masterpiece, Casablanca perfectly defined the greatest act of love – letting go. You have to watch it to appreciate it.
Big (1988)
A 13-year-old boy wakes up to find he’s not a teenager anymore. Now in his 30s, he’s bombarded with life issues, dilemmas and worst of all, love! What will he do when he goes back to being 13?
Shakespeare In Love (1998)
The man who gave us some of the most romantic tales ever, was left heartbroken by his true love. Ironic, we know!
City Of Angels (1998)
An angel leaves heaven for the woman (obviously, a human) he loves. Only to be separated from her in the most tragic way possible.
A Walk To Remember (2002)
There’s a moment in the film when the protagonist finds his love has only few days to live… Absolutely heart-breaking.
Lost in Translation (2003)
An aging film star finds himself attracted to a young woman who’s neglected by her husband. But sadly, a happy ending is not what Fate has in store for them.
These are some of the Happily-Never-Afters we’d recommend. So, this weekend plan a movie marathon and enjoy! And yes, do remember to keep those tissue boxes handy. 😉

Actresses Who Quit Acting Post-Marriage

Just when we thought we’d never get to see the reigning queens of the ’90s – Madhuri Dixit and Sridevi – on the big screen again, they made a stupendous comeback. However, the same cannot be hoped for some other B-town beauties, who quit acting post-marriage. And rumour has it, there’s soon going to a new addition to this bandwagon.
Actress Asin, who’s known for her varied roles in the South Indian film industries as well as Bollywood, is all set to quit her career after her marriage to Rahul Sharma, co-founder of Micromax. Dreadful news for her fans, we know. Like her, here are few more actresses who gave up stardom for a happily married life.
 Twinkle Khanna
Daughter of yesteryear actor, Rajesh Khanna, Twinkle’s tryst with Bollywood was cut short after her marriage to Akshay Kumar. The beautiful actress, who is remembered for her roles opposite Aamir Khan and Salman Khan, is now famously known as Mrs Funnybones –  thanks to her witty writing.
Gayatri Joshi
The most surprising exit of all, Gayatri Joshi made her debut with none other than Shah Rukh Khan in Swades. And just when we thought Bollywood has found another gem, she decided to get married and quit acting. We really hope she makes a comeback.
Sonali Bendre
Pretty and vivacious, Sonali Bendre is currently a known face on the social circuit. Though the actress made her television debut with several shows recently, she has no intentions of appearing on the big screen again.
Ayesha Takia
From being a Complan girl to romancing Salman Khan on the big screen, she’s done it all. The pretty actress is now enjoying married life, away from all the glitz and glamour of Bollywood.
Shilpa Shetty
Remember her Big Brother stint? The international fame she received post the reality show gave her Bollywood career a much-needed boost. However, the actress decided to get married and quit her career instead.
There you go, those are some of our most-missed missus! What about you? Tell us, and your friends!

Five Times Bollywood Gave Us Career Goals

No kidding!

Looking at some recent movies, Bollywood has been constantly offering us some serious career advice. Gone are the days when protagonists were rich NRIs or CEOs. The filmmakers are now making an attempt to present their characters with interesting jobs.

The latest example being Dharma Productions’ Shaandaar, where Shahid Kapoor plays a dashing event/wedding organizer. We won’t be surprised if the market is flooded with budding organizers post the film. But, yes you have to agree it looks way more interesting than the hero being stuck in a boring 9-to-5 job.
We came across some more interesting career options suggested by the movies. If any of you is still clueless about a direction your career needs to take, you might as look explore these options.
Ranbir Kapoor as Videographer (Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani)
Travel around the world, document peoples’ experiences and get paid for it – who wouldn’t want a job like that? Ranbir Kapoor’s role as a videographer in Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani is what one can call a dream job.
Katrina Kaif as Scuba Diving Instructor (Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara)
An underwater experience for 365 days! Like seriously; who needs a vacation if you are a Scuba Diving Instructor?
Ranveer Singh and Anushka Sharma as Wedding Planners (Band Baaja Baaraat)
Band Baaja Baaraat was like a tutorial for people who aspire to be wedding planners. So if you are planning to be one, you probably should take tips from Bittu and Shruti in this superhit film.
Anushka Sharma as Filmmaker (Jab Tak Hai Jaan
A perfect job for those who love to travel. Anushka’s character Akira totally made us want to become a filmmaker too. After all, you get to travel, meet different people, shoot experiences and your job is done. Who wouldn’t want a life like that?
Preity Zinta as Radio Jockey (Salaam Namaste)
Or maybe Vidya Balan in Lage Raho Munna Bhai! The actresses made RJing look so much fun and exciting in their films. A career definitely worth giving a try, don’t you think?
Now that you’ve seen the options, which one seems best suited for you? What do you want to be?

Go North With Bollywood

There comes a time in your life when you just want to leave everything aside and take off on a vacation. Well, allow us to fire up that li’l ‘vacay demon’ in you. Who should we blame for that? Bollywood, of course! Let’s take North India, for example. The film industry has left no stones unturned when it comes to capturing picturesque locations of the region in the movies. So much that you’d want to pack your bags and set out on a trip with your buddies to those very places. ASAP! So if you are already planning that holiday, you might as well take some tips from the movies that beautifully captured the scenic locations. North India is more beautiful than you could ever have imagined.
Imtiaz Ali‘s obsession with Northern cities is well known to all. And with Highway, the director went a step ahead and took us on the most spectacular trip from Delhi to Himachal Pradesh to the snow-clad mountains of Kashmir. We’d be surprised if the film didn’t make you want to go on a road trip too.
Shot extensively in Kashmir, the film painted a beautiful picture of the region on the screen for the masses. From snow-capped mountains to the memerizing Dal Lake, the film was lauded for it’s beautiful cinematography.
Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani
If there’s one film that made us desperately take up trekking, it was Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani. Though the scenes were actually shot in Kashmir, Ayan Mukerji‘s direction compelled you to take a trip to the whole of up North and experience it yourself.
Jab We Met
Remember the song Yeh Ishq Haaye? It was not just Kareena’s dance that sizzled things up in the song but also the beauty and serenity of Rohtang Pass. Just more fodder for the traveler’s soul by Imtiaz Ali.
Jab Tak Hai Jaan
After shooting for Dil Se.., Shah Rukh Khan returned to mesmerizing Ladakh after several years for Jab Tak Hai Jaan. Yash Chopra who was known for his cinematography skills captured Ladakh like never before.

Johnny Depp is Back with Black Mass

Intense, brutal and stacked with crime in abundance, the Black Mass trailer is without any doubt – spectacular. Directed by Scott Cooper, the film features an ensemble cast lead by none other than the man with many faces on screen, Johnny Depp. Yes, he’s back and this time with a vengeance. Haven’t seen the trailer yet? Here’s an exclusive sneak peek just for you:

So, are you ready for some pure and evil crime drama? With the film all set for its Indian release next week, here are a few reasons why we feel you mustn’t miss Black Mass:
Based on the novel of the same name, the film traces the life of one of the most notorious fugitives in the history of the U.S. The story highlights the infamous alliance between an FBI agent and an Irish-American mobster, Whitney Bulger (played by Johnny Depp).
 Johnny Depp’s Big comeback:
Atleast that’s what the trailer promises us! Yes, the star looks every bit of a mafia leader with his evil and cold-blooded guise. Will this role be another feather in his cap? That’s for you to find out.
A-list Cast:
Benedict Cumberbatch, Joel Edgerton, Kevin Bacon and more, the film has a line up of brilliant actors. Why would you miss such an experience?
Authentic Locations:
The murder scenes in the film are shot at the same locations where they actually happened. Creepy we know, but true to the story.
Thrilling Content:
From FBI drama, politics, gang wars to high octane action scenes, the film has everything for you.
So yes, Black Mass looks to be a promising American crime flick. So for those who love this kind of cinema, mark your calendars now. And the rest of you, there’s always a first time – go for it!

5 times Athiya Shetty reminded us of Sonam Kapoor

There’s a new fashionista in B-town!

Though her debut film Hero is yet to hit the screens, Athiya Shetty is already making head turns with her exuberant style. Yes, Suniel Shetty’s lovely daughter is all grown up and we think she might soon be a threat to the Queen Bee of Bollywood fashion – Sonam Kapoor. The upcoming star glittered at all the promotional events for her film, with her stunning outfits and remarkable poise. But their fashion sense is not the only thing common between the two heroines. Here are few more times Athiya totally reminded us of the Aisha-famed actress.

Daddy’s Little Princess: Just like Sonam, Athiya is a daddy’s girl, too. The actress recently revealed that she would avoid watching her father’s action films, ’cause watching him getting punched on-screen was absolutely terrifying. #Awww

The Selfie Girl: With her Instagram account brimming with selfies, we can assume the pretty actress loves clicking selfies- another famous trait of Sonam’s.

The Salman Khan Connection: Remember Salman Khan’s special appearance in Sonam’s debut film, Saawariya? Well, in this case we can say Athiya is a tad more lucky as the actress gets to debut with Salman Khan Films.

Dressed To The Nines: Always. Like we mentioned earlier, the Shetty girl has left no stone unturned in the path to Fashion Fame. In fact, the fashion police has already termed her as the next fashionista. We wonder what Sonam has to say about this?

Debut Opposite Star Kid: If Sonam made her debut opposite Ranbir Kapoor, Athiya is all set to make her’s opposite, Sooraj Pancholi- Aditya Pancholi’s son. Coincidence? Yeah, maybe 😛

Those are the many times Athiya Shetty totally reminded us of Sonam Kapoor.

With critics waiting to review the actress’ performance in Hero, here’s wishing her all the best!

5 times Akshay Kumar made us Laugh Out Loud

He maybe the Khiladiyon ka Khiladi but his remarkable comic talent is no secret. However, before the superstar set foot into the realms of comedy, he was typecast as an actor who could only do action roles. But Akshay Kumar proved everyone wrong, and how! As his career progressed, he went on to appear in a series of hilariously insane roles that left the audience in splits. Seriously, who would have thought that this alpha male of Bollywood could pull off comic roles with such ease? In fact today, we can say Akshay pioneered the idea of action-comedy in Bollywood. 😛
Haven’t seen any of his comedy films? Here’s his best 5 so far that will definitely make you laugh out loud.
Hera Pheri:
Ayee Raju!‘ Akshay’s role as a young fella who wants to get rich quick tops our comedy list. Remember the ‘Golmaal Hai Bhai Sab Golmaal Hai‘ scene? If you’ve watched it, I’m sure you’re smiling right now.
Heyy Baby:
After Hera Pheri, there was no stopping the Khiladi turned Comedy King! He appeared in numerous roles and struck the right chord again with Heyy Babyy. The scenes where he makes his ex-lover meet suitors for marriage are hilarious.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa:
If Vidya Balan gave us the creeps as Manjulika, Akshay Kumar literally made us fall off the seats as the ghost-hunting psychiatrist. From the moment he appears on screen to the last scene, we bet you won’t stop laughing.

Om Shanti Om (Cameo role):
Though it was just a two-minute cameo, Akshay nailed it with his bang-on comic timing. Check it out in the video below:

Singh Is Kinng:
How can we forget Happy Singh, the naive and good-for-nothing chirpy fellow who goes on a trip to Australia. Akshay’s shenanigans were so funny that people are already excited for the sequel Singh Is Bling!
Here’s wishing the star a very Happy Birthday! 😀
