Kedarnath: Film Review – The Story of Love & Religion In God’s Own City

Verdict: The actor-director jodi strikes gold once again.

Braving all the production delays, discrepancies, and confusion, the highly awaited romance drama Kedarnath has finally reached the theatres. The film marks the debut of Amrita Singh and Saif Ali Khan‘s daughter Sara Ali Khan and reunites the super-hit jodi of Kai Po Che!director Abhishek Kapoor and actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Based on the flash floods of 2013, Kedarnath is a story of love finding its way around the wrath of nature.

What’s Kedarnath About:

The movie revolves around Mukku (Sara Ali Khan), a Brahmin girl who is engaged against her will and Mansoor (Sushant Singh Rajput), a Muslim porter who lives in Kedarnath to serve the pilgrims. As you have seen in the trailer, they eventually fall in love. Mukku, against all odds, wants to be with Mansoor and he tries his best to keep her safe. The film follows their love story that is put to test by religious discord and a natural calamity.

What Works:

The movie is set in Kedarnath, which apart from its holy value is known for natural beauty and a majestic view of the Himalayas. The film goes on to give you a glimpse of the culture and the people who live there. With an aerial view of the stunning locations, you feel like a part of the movie. The pace of the narration is fast and keeps you hooked to the story. Every moment, you look forward to what’s to come next. It is hard to keep your eyes off the screen, especially in the flood scenes where you would deliberately try not to blink.

Sushant Singh Rajput is an excellent actor and a marvelous dancer, and he brings his best to the movie. Sara Ali Khan is probably one of the best debutantes of the year. She is convincing as the rebellious Mukku who falls in love with a man belonging to another religious community but follows her heart. She plays a powerful character and it suits her persona. There are other known faces in the movie and they all score well in terms of acting.

The movie has hummable and peppy numbers and the songs have been placed well throughout the film. Additionally, the background score makes the movie worth a watch just by itself. The sound and visuals together make Kedarnath quite stunning.

Kedarnath Film Review - BookMyShow

What Could’ve Been Better:

The movie, while focusing on an important topic, is quite a quintessential romantic drama. Those who expect it to be high on adrenaline might not appreciate the movie as much.

Why You Should Watch:

Watch Kedarnath for a unique cinematic experience. The movie is a great mix of love, romance, drama and tragedy, all timed well. Sushant fans do not need a reason and Sara will make fans after this movie, for sure. The movie focuses on a very important issue subtly told through a love story. It is worth a watch. We highly recommend it!

10 Movies That Prove Salman Khan is The King of Cameos

Salman Khan is a brand by himself. He knows the value he carries and he is quite liberal in sharing it with others. We all know how Salman has contributed to the film industry and it is not limited to just acting. He has a production house now and he has launched quite a few newcomers. Bhaijaan – as we all know him – has never shied away from adding some extra star value in movies and is always happy to help through his cameos. We can count at least 30 of them just on the tip of our fingers. But since there are only ten fingers on a normal hand, we have listed below the top 10 cameos by the one and only King of Cameos, Salman Khan:

1. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (Aman)

A handsome eligible bachelor, Aman is the kind of person who any girl would willingly marry. This brief role in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai is indeed one of the most memorable and good looking ones.

2. Lai bhaari (Bhau)

This movie marked Bhai’s Marathi cameo debut. Not to our surprise, his character in the movie was Bhau which means Bhai in Marathi. Cool, right?

3. Saawariya (Imaan)

In the debut movie of both Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor, Bhai played the role of Sonam’s lover who has gone away with a promise to return back. And a man of his words, he comes back.

4. Om Shanti Om (Himself)

This is one of the rare movies where we see Shah Rukh Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Saif Ali Khan, and Salman Khan on the same screen. It is a brief moment but one that you can watch on repeat.

5. Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani (himself)

The number of times Bhai has played himself on screen and met normal people keeps us fans believing in the fact that we might also get to talk to him someday in real life.

6. Tees Maar Khan (Himself)

Watching Salman dance tops the entertainment chart and having him a part of a dance routine in a cameo is like making the best of an opportunity. Watch Wallah Re Wallah to know what we are talking about.

7. Judwaa 2 (Raja & Prem)

This movie exists because Salman Khan was in the first edition. Having him in the sequel was mandatory and David Dhawan didn’t disappoint us by giving the double dose of Bhaijaan.

8. Yamla Pagla DeewanA Phir Se (Mastana)

Only Salman can match the amount of craziness that the Deol trio brings to the screens. In the third edition of Yamla Pagla Deewana, Bhai became the Mastana for one scene.

9. Son of Sardaar (Pathan)

Another hilarious movie with a staple cameo of Salman Khan. He plays the friend of Ajay Devgn’s character Jassi and makes goons fly in the air just as usual.

10. Zero (Himself)

We all saw the Eid teaser of Zero that released this June. The excitement of fans was quite visible in the number of hits on the YouTube video. Not just the cameo in the movie, it will be a great moment for Bollywood fans because Salman and Shah Rukh will share the same screen space after a really long time.

The release of Zero is less than a month away and the wait is only getting harder. If you are also as excited about the movie as we are, then keep visiting this space for more on the movie and stay tuned for our review.

Everything You Need to Know About Shah Rukh Khan’s Zero So Far

Cast: Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif, Anushka Sharma
Director: Aanand L. Rai
Producer: Gauri Khan
Write: Himanshu Sharma

Release date: 21st December 2018

The most anticipated movie of the year, Zero is less than a month away now. Everyone’s more than excited to see Shah Rukh Khan in his all-new half-atar. The movie has been in news right from the inception of the concept in 2012 and the news of casting and shoots constantly popped up over all these years. The title of the movie was confirmed on the 1st of January this year and the teaser made everyone go gaga. But everyone went actually crazy after the first teaser released where both Bhai Jaan and King Khan shared the same screen, after years. The movie is highly anticipated and for all the right reasons.

Zero revolves around Bauua Singh (Shah Rukh Khan), who is a short man from Meerut and is in search of a companion. He comes across Aafia (Anushka Sharma), a NASA scientist with a condition called cerebral palsy. They get along well. There’s another girl Babita (Katrina Kaif), who is a superstar. She also becomes a part of Bauua’s life, challenging his relationship with Aafia. From the trailer, the movie looks like a love triangle as both the ladies have a scene in their wedding attire. There’s also a rocket being launched at the end of the trailer which sort of hints towards Bauua being focused on finding his true calling. Well, the trailer doesn’t really give the story of the movie away and it has made the wait even harder than before.

With increasing excitement, every second of footage is getting a lot of traction and the crew is releasing very interesting content to keep up the expectations of the fans. One of the videos shows the lead cast and the director sitting together discussing how they were deceived into the role they are playing. Each one of them was told that their role is the most important one of the story and Aanand L. Rai is trying to handle that situation. It is quite funny too. Watch the video here:

The promotions of the movie started right before the grand trailer launch where a replica of Meerut was created at the Imax theatre at Wadala, Mumbai. The grand launch and the trailer were both very well received. The movie is actually giving promotional goals to future Bollywood movies, and it doesn’t stop with the massive trailer launch. There are multiple online contests, behind-the-scene videos, and candid chats. The movie is also collaborating with YouTube Original‘s first reality venture ARRived, whose winner will become the voice of Zero.

From the trailer of the movie, it is quite evident that we’ll get to see the quintessential wooing of a girl in Shah Rukh style which makes us believe that the movie will have a few romance numbers. One of the songs have already been released and it is quite dreamy. Mera Naam Tu was released recently and already has more than 35 million views which is enough proof that it is being loved by everyone. We are eagerly looking forward to more songs that will release in the few days that are left before the release.

Zero is all set to release on 21st December 2018. Keep visiting this space for more on the movie and our review.

5 Mandatory Elements of an Abhishek Kapoor Directorial

To be a part of Bollywood is a dream for almost everyone and for those few who get to be a part of it, is indeed a dream come true. Abhishek Kapoor, a noted director, started his career as an actor in the 1997 film Uff! Yeh Mohabbat. It is truly said that life takes turns and eventually you reach where you are destined to go. Kapoor has been in the industry for two decades now and has quite a few critically acclaimed movies under his credits. Starting from Aryan to Kai Po Che, he has come a long way and it won’t be incorrect to say that he has got the craft right.

Abhishek Kapoor is a storyteller and if you watch his movies closely you’ll find certain elements that are a mandatory part of the story he chooses. We have listed a few things that we find are mandatory in an Abhishek Kapoor directorial:

A Story of Growth

Take all his movies, you’ll find one point when the story breaks and characters fall apart, i.e. the band in Rock On, the friendship in Kai Po Che or the Boxing career in Aryan. The break in his movies isn’t resolved miraculously like every other masala movie. His stories and character take their time to learn and grow to justify coming back together.

Music as Per the Movie

Music makes for a very important part in Indian movies and to get them right is very important. Not only does Kapoor’s movies get the music right, they also carry the essence of the story in it. While there is a staple combination of songs (dream sequence, item number, dance number, etc.) for commercial Bollywood movies, songs in his movies have a certain regional touch – a linguistic inclination which is picturized accordingly.

Romance as a Part of the Story, Not the Whole Story

This is what happens mostly in foreign movies, where the love story in a movie is not the center of the story but a just supporting function to the movie. Kapoor’s movies similarly have a strong storyline supported by a love story that takes it forward without overshadowing the whole film.

A Message to Take Home

It is very unlikely for a commercial movie to have a strong message, as most of the commercial movies in Bollywood are focused on entertainment only. His movies, on the other hand, are commercial but they also have a moral value. They give you the entertainment you seek but they also leave you with a positive message.

A Happy Ending

Everyone loves happy endings, but to make a realistic movie and end it happily is not everyone’s cup of tea, because face it, there are minimal happy endings in real life. But Abhishek Kapoor’s movies do have a happy ending even though his movies are high on realism.

Abhishek Kapoor’s next movie, Kedarnath, is also based on a real incident and is told through a love story between a Hindu girl (Sara Ali Khan) and a Muslim boy (Sushant Singh Rajput). The movie covers the devastating flash floods of Kedarnath.

Till now, we know that the movie has everything that an Abhishek Kapoor movie has except, obviously, what happens in the end. Do you think it will have a happy ending? Let us know in the comments and keep visiting this space for more on the movie and our review.

Bhaiaji Superhit: Film Review – A Goofy Comedy of Errors & Over-the-top Action

Verdict: A hilarious no-brainer feat. Sunny Paaji’s dhai kilo ka haath, among others.

Sunny Deol is one of the strongest action heroes ever in Bollywood. He can melt iron just by his anger and can beat thousands of men without having to suffer a single scratch. In the recent Deol movies like the Yamla Pagla Deewana series, we have seen and enjoyed his over-the-top action and the parody. In Bhaiaji Superhit, the action doubles up with Sunny Paaji’s double role in the movie and the desi swag, obviously.

What’s Bhaiaji Superhit About:

3D Bhaiya (Sunny Deol), a Varanasi based don, is having a hard time coping with his emotions ever since his wife Sapna (Preity Zinta) started living at her parents’ place. His business is going down and everyone around him is trying to fix the situation. when he kidnaps a Bollywood director Goldie Kapoor (Arshad Warsi) for money, in addition to the ransom Goldie also suggests making a movie around Bhaiyaji’s love life in order to impress Bhabhiji. With the film, begins a roller coaster ride of comedy, romance, and a lot of action.

What Works:

The best thing about Bhaiaji Superhit is the fact that Sunny Deol is comfortable parodying himself. It has all the over-the-top action you can expect from a Sunny Deol movie where he makes people fly, dodges bullets, and lifts cars. He has done his job the way you want him to. Preity Zinta is a total surprise as a loud and wannabe English-speaking character from Varanasi. She plays the daughter of a gangster and the rowdy wife of a don and she is amazing to watch. Deol and Zinta’s chemistry will crack you up every time she shoots a bullet at him. Arshad Warsi and Shreyas Talpade have commendable comic timing and stay true to their characters.

Bhaiaji Superhit has a few songs that fit with the flow. The background score is quite strong and enhances the sequences, especially the action scenes. The movie asks you to keep your brains at home and just enjoy a goofy comedy of errors sans the double-meaning stuff.

What Could’ve Been Better:

The movie is a lot of fun when you know that you are going in for a goofy parody movie which doesn’t rely on logic and sense. If you are the kind of person who wants Sunny Paaji to take on a punch because when it’s only logical, then this might not be the movie for you.

Why You Should Watch:

Watch the movie if you want to laugh out loud on the most bizarre things. Sunny Deol serves you a double dose of comedy and action in this one. Preity Zinta has given a crazy performance and you’ll love her as Sapna Dubey. Take your family and watch this movie for a couple of hours of mad and goofy fun.

Mumbai is not only the center of Bollywood but it is also the center of the story for many Bollywood movies. Another addition to that list is the upcoming movie The Dark Side of Life: Mumbai City. The movie marks the acting debut of noted filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt where he plays an old father who lives alone while his son is in the US. The movie revolves around seven stories that are interconnected to each other in some way. All seven protagonists are battling financial and emotional issues and are being pushed towards depression.

The first look poster of the movie was released on the 31st of August 2018 and it was followed by the trailer that was launched on the 11th of September 2018. The crew of the movie planned and executed a very unique promotional activity where a dummy body was hung on one of the hoardings near the Oshiwara signal in Mumbai this weekend. The scene looked like a suicide and got a lot of attention.

The music album of the movie has a variety of songs including the soulful number Aawargi, Tu mujhse nikalta nahi and a trippy song called Saap sidhi wala saap. All the songs have been released and have certainly contributed to the hype of the film.

Azeem Banatwalla’s Problems Are First World & First Class

The comedy scene in India is evolving and so are the comedians. We have also come a long way when it comes to accepting comedy. However, there are comedians who still have a hard time because of their opinions and the jokes that revolve around them. One such comedian is Azeem Banatwalla. He is known for his intelligent punches and dark humor and now will be known for his Problems, his latest comedy special.

Azeem is an Engineer who turned IT down (pun intended) to pursue comedy. Nothing unique really, except his style of comedy. He is a simple looking, unnoticeable guy next door with a killer sense of humor. His comedy comes from observations, current affairs, and his theoretical attempt at solving world problems while he is stuck in traffic. Well, since he lives in Mumbai, we can’t blame him for this.

Azeem is a 30-year-old comedian who praises himself for his work while he is performing. He knows that the world is selfish so he keeps a few jokes for himself in his routine. He is pretty straightforward and his comedy is intelligent too. Till now, Azeem has had successful comedy specials viz. Out of My System & Cometh the Hour which have been hugely successful. Problems is his current comedy special and it is being received very well. (So much that it is coming on Amazon Prime as well.)

Problems, more than being about problems, focuses on giving you the solution to those problems. And mind you, you won’t see them coming. Focusing on overpopulation, government, birds, and humanity on a whole, Azeem has made an hour of material to keeps you LOLing non-stop, especially if you are open to dark humor. He says that he has tried ignoring the problems, running away from them, but they don’t seem to leave him, so he started making money off them. Also, he is married.

Azeem thinks of the most random premise and gets humor out of it. He may make you think his observational skills are very impressive but then he is a comedian, that’s his job. His stories, jokes, and comments are mostly dark, provocative, and extremely funny. His cynical sense of humor makes you think whether he was bitten by Jaadu to have that sort of a thought process.

If you have to sum up, it won’t be incorrect to say that if you combine sarcasm, humor, bizarre logic, and chemical X, you’ll end up creating Azeem Banatwalla -a simpleton engineer with a passion to solve world problems. His proposed solutions may or may not make sense to you but they will surely get you cracking. He is currently touring with his stand-up special and you must watch him live at least once.

Chippa: Film Review – Of Fascinating Dreams, Aspirations & A Letter

Verdict: A heart-warming journey of discoveries and adventures.

Sunny Pawar‘s debut film Lion won him global accolades and awards. The film was nominated for six categories at the 89th Academy Awards. He, as a child, has achieved a lot that many people dream of and dreams is what this movie is all about. Written and directed by Safdar Rahman, Chippa made its debut at MAMI 2018. It revolves around a 10-year-old boy and is bound to take you to your childhood.

What’s Chippa About:

Chippa is a boy living on the pavement who is handed a letter written to him by his long-absent father just a day before his 10th birthday. He decides to leave his roadside abode and embarks on a journey to find out the content of the letter which is in Urdu script. What follows is a coming-of-age tale of a 10-year-old boy where he creates a world for himself in a wintry night of Kolkata.

Chippa Film Review - BookMyShow

What Works:

There’s no doubt that the protagonist breathes life into the story. It is Sunny’s dialogue delivery, his energy, or probably the characterization of Chippa, that as the movie progresses consciously moves you into the story. He keeps you interested while doing just the normal things. During the journey, Chippa doesn’t show you the Kolkata that you’ve seen in Bollywood movies with Victoria Memorial, Eden Garden, Hoogly river, Ghats or Salt Lake. He takes you to the nights of the city where drunk men wander senselessly or prostitutes vanish in a car, where a policeman gives you a ride, and taxis have garden above them. It is not as dark as the night but it definitely is a discovery for the kid. Some of it might seem imaginary, some of it is imaginary, but all of it is beautiful.

Chippa makes you look back and reminisce your childhood days where you wondered what would your city look like in the dark night while you were sleeping comfortably in your house. The movie is definitely for all the children but it does have a few lessons for adults as well.

What Could Have Been Better:

The movie is like a short story from the book of Chippa’s life. From the perspective of the movie, every character has its own space but it sure leaves you feeling that some of them could have been explored more.

Why You Should Watch:

Watch the movie for the pure innocence of it. It shows you a journey that probably every adult has thought about in their childhood. All the adventures, dreams and ideas that are conveyed through a 10-year-old boy, makes for a delightful watch. Chippa is highly recommended for everyone of every age.
