The Many Shades of Ranveer Singh

One of the most dynamic personalities Bollywood has ever produced, Ranveer Singh is a force of nature. His unending energy has made everyone either love him or envy him. He is in the news all the time and has been giving blockbusters one after the other throughout most of his Bollywood career. His talent was acknowledged by everyone from his very debut and he has proved his versatility with every character he has portrayed. He can be the slick member of the Mehra family from Dil Dhadakne Do or a local goon in Gunday. He can portray the brave nobility of Bajirao or just be plain cruel like Khilji. He can literally play anything and everything.

In his Bollywood career, we saw many colors of Ranveer through his characters that he played. Let’s have a look at a few of them:

Band Baaja Baaraat – Yellow

The chirpy Bittu who wanted to start a binness with Shruti instead of going back home to work with his father was a delight to watch. A little cool, a little desi, he was oozing the color of mustard fields, which is yellow.

Lootera – Blue

A very non-Ranveer kind of a character, Varun Shrivastav/Atmanand “Nandu” Tripathi was a serious Lootera who, in spite of falling in love with Pakhi, leaves her after looting her family. This one is infused with the essence of blue hues and melancholy.

Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela – Red

With all the gulal, passion and love, Ram Rajari only reminds you of one color – red. He is a lover who loved more than his life and climbed boundaries that were created by ancestors. He was a keeper.

Kill Dil – Green

Mainly because of all the green tone on the movie, Kill Dil deserves a green as a whole. Dev, an orphan raised by a local gangster falls in love. That love ends up killing the person who gave him a meaningful life, like every typical love story ever.

Dil Dhadakne Do – Tangerine

We would give Kabir Mehra a tangerine because plain orange will be too downmarket for the Mehras. Kabir is fun and likes to follow his heart but he also has to take over the business empire. He is confused but he is still at a happy place. He is tangerine.

Padmaavat – Black

There are chances that Khilji originally had a black heart. With the kind of brutality and heartlessness that was shown in Padmaavat, his character deserves no other color except vanta black.

Simmba – Khaki

Khaki might not be a color that is usually found in the usual color palette but it is one of most important colors that exist, exactly like Simmba. There are many like him, both in terms of movies and characters, but we still need him to be there. So, we grant him the color of khaki.

’83 – White

Based on the glorious victory of our country, ’83 will have Ranveer play Kapil Dev. Since the entire Indian Cricket Team wore a white jersey while they made the country proud in the 1983 Cricket World Cup, we give this character the simple, yet bright white.

Gully Boy – Grey

The trailer of Gully Boy has shown us different shades of Ranveer character which has put him in the grey area, which is also the color that this character resonates with.

Ranveer has shown us his acting talent and dancing skill but with his next movie, he is expanding his abilities by venturing into rapping. Gully Boy releases on the 14th of February.

10 Bollywood Jodis That We Are Excited to See in 2019

A new year comes with a lot of excitement for every movie buff. Not only does it reduce the wait for much-awaited movies by a year, but it also has a fresh calendar of new movies. While the stories, background, and the concept are the main aspects of a movie, the fact that some movies are exceedingly anticipated because of the actors cannot be denied, especially in Bollywood. And this year, we have a lot of jodis that are going to set the screen on fire with their chemistry and performance. Below are a few of them that we are extremely excited to see on the big screen this year:

1. Ranveer SinghAlia Bhatt

Both Ranveer and Alia are a powerhouse of talent and the fact that they have never shared the screen space together makes this jodi one of the most anticipated ones this year. They will be seen together in Gully Boy. By the trailer, the movie looks rad and we are sure it will be a good one.

2. Rajkummar RaoKangana Ranaut

We saw Rajkummar and Kangana together once in Queen and they killed it with the small screen time they share during the movie. They are uniting again for Mental Hai Kya and their characters look insane, literally. And we cannot wait, literally.

3. Kartik AaryanKriti Sanon

After doing numerous movies with Luv Ranjan, Kartik Aryan has finally taken a step ahead and will be seen opposite Kriti Sanon in Luka Chuppi. This is one of the jodis that are sharing the screen space for the first time.

4. Akshay KumarKareena Kapoor Khan

Both Akki and Bebo have done a lot of movies together and most of them have been a huge success, both critically and financially. The hit jodi is coming back to screen with Good News in the second half of this year.

5. Amitabh BachchanTapsee Pannu

The duo killed it with their performance in Pink. Taapsee has proved her mettle in the past few years and we all know what a legend Mr. Bachchan is. They are coming back with Badla and we cannot wait to see them together again.

6. Hrithik RoshanTiger Shroff

Keeping everything aside, if both Hrithik and Tiger are dancing on the big screen for 3 minutes in any movie, that movie will easily become the most highly awaited one. They are great dancers, extremely good looking, have kick ass physiques, and are also such gentlemen. The movie is still untitled but we simply cannot calm ourselves for this one.

7. Ajay DevgnKajol

The real-life couple is coming back to the reel world after a decade with Taanaji: The Unsung Warrior. They are certainly one of the most loved pairs of B-Town and their comeback on the big screen is highly awaited.

8. Ranbir Kapoor – Alia Bhatt

Apart from being great actors, the speculations of Ranbir and Alia dating makes their movie Brahmastra a must-watch. It also marks the comeback of Ayan Mukherjee with Ranbir Kapoor and we are really looking forward to a magical movie experience like the one we saw in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani.

9. Shahid KapoorKiara Advani

This is a very unique one. Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani will unite for the Hindi remake of Arjun Reddy which is called Kabir Singh. We have seen Kiara’s work in a few movies and we are sure that the actors will compliment each other on the screen.

10. Sushant Singh RajputJaqueline Fernandes

The official remake of the Hollywood movie Drive also has a very cool cast – Sushant Singh Rajpoot and Jaqueline Fernandes. This is their first movie together and it won’t be wrong to say that both the actors make a frame look stunning by themselves.

We hope we got you as excited as us to see these jodis together on the big screen.

The Journey of Kangana Ranaut From an Outsider to the Queen of Bollywood

To put it in one line, from an outsider to one of the highest paid actress of Bollywood, such is the journey of Kangana Ranaut. She made her debut in the 2006 movie Gangster and since then there have been a lot of ups and downs in her career. Being ridiculed for the lispy accent, stereotyped for her characters, controversies, failures, and huge successes, she has been through all. She is the first female actor to have a movie centered around her cross the 100 crore mark at the box office and a key figure when it comes to female equality in the film industry. She has done a lot of work and we are proud of her for being who she is. Let’s have a look at her journey so far:

The First Few Years

Kangana was about to debut through a film called I Love You Boss in 2004. The following year she auditioned for Gangster. She was rejected initially and Chitrangada Singh was cast for the same role. Due to Singh’s unavailability, she was replaced with Kangana and her career began. The girl who was too young to play a certain role bagged a Filmfare award for the Best Debut for the same. After that, she did four more movies with similar roles and was getting typecast for playing similar characters. It was her sixth movie Fashion alongside Priyanka Chopra where she actually got her due recognition and won a National Award for Best Supporting Actress.

The Hits and Misses

After playing a few too many neurotic characters, Ranaut started experimenting with “less emotionally exhausting” roles. She danced alongside Hrithik Roshan in Kites and played a gangster’s wife in Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai. She also tried comedy movies like No Problem and played a TV reporter in Knock Out. But nothing seemed to work for her until Tanu Weds Manu. This film changed the game for her. The movie became a sleeper hit, received a mixed response but everyone sang praises for the leading lady of the movie.

The Turning Point

After Tanu Weds Manu, Kangana did a lot of movies and with an exception of a few, others bombed at the box office. But her pursuit of different characters and versatility didn’t stop. She even played a shapeshifter mutant in Krrish 3. Even though Krrish 3 was her most financially profitable movie, the turning point of her career was when she chose to do Queen. It literally established her name in the industry and the country. She played a naive girl who (self-admittedly) is exactly opposite of her character. She received unanimous praises from the critics and the audience. This movie made her the Queen of Bollywood, for real.

The Revolution

After Queen, Ranaut’s biggest hit has been Tanu Weds Manu Returns. The film became the first ever movie to cross 100 crores domestically with a female protagonist. In the film she played a double role, portraying two entirely different characters. She won her second consecutive National Film Award for Best Actress after Queen. She established a mark that started a revolution for female protagonists in movies and gender equality became a thing, both in the industry and the country.

The Present and Beyond

Ranaut has been in news for a lot of things since some time. Controversies haven’t left her side since 2017. After Simran (2017), Ranaut has been working on her next big movie, Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, where she also dons the director’s hat. The movie went through a lot of ups and downs because of the nature of the subject. Apart from this one, she has four more movies coming up viz. Mental Hai Kya with Rajkummar Rao, Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari‘s PangaAnurag Basu‘s Imali, and her directorial comedy-drama Teju.

Kangana’s journey has been nothing but inspirational. She speaks her mind and her contribution to the Indian cinema is extremely significant. She is coming back to the screen to play none other than our own real-life superhero – Rani Laxmi Bai of Jhansi in Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi. The movie releases on the 25th of January and we can’t want to see the queen play the queen.

Till then keep checking out the blog for more on this movie and our review.

Why Cheat India: Film Review – Passes The Test

Verdict: Emraan Hashmi delivers a top-class performance as the proxy mafia.

The most recent victim of CFBC’s moral policing, Why Cheat India starring Emraan Hashmi had everyone’s expectations high. The film deals with the pros and cons of our education system, throwing light on the people who are plaguing it even more. While the original title ‘Cheat India’ fits way better than the current one, the film doesn’t lose its impact by that tiny change.

What’s Why Cheat India About:

The movie revolves around a confident and astute Rakesh Singh (Emraan Hashmi) who runs a business of rigging examinations to forging certificates. He recruits a few middle-class top rankers and makes them write exams for rich kids for an assured seat. While this is one aspect of his business, he is also a pro at exploiting the many loopholes in the education system. Everything goes smoothly until he plans to move to a countrywide scam from just earning money one paper a time.

What Works:

Undoubtedly, Emraan Hashmi is a gem. He carries the movie on his shoulders, pulling off every frame with calm and ease. His charm and dedication to this character keep you engaged throughout the movie. Shreya Dhanwantary and Snigdhadeep Chatterjee are perfectly cast as the innocent siblings who get embroiled in the scam with affection and money. There are a few more actors in the supporting cast who score well in terms of performances, thus enhancing the film’s likeability.

Writer-director Soumik Sen has put across some extremely relevant points regarding parents treating their children as investments or the amount of pressure students deal with in general. The fact that students from locations like Jhansi, Kota and many tier-2 cities face more criticism and are pushed towards careers like engineering, medical and banking has also been focused upon. The movie tells a gritty story with the help of an amoral Rakesh Singh.

The film is based on a concept that deserves a lot of merit. The fact that it is based on a true story adds to the connect and also keeps you entertained.

What Could’ve Been Better:

The movie, while making a few valid points, tries to justify the case of a person who is facilitating cheating in national level exams. It is a great watch and a lot of fun but it might give a different impact on some viewers than what is intended by the makers.

Why You Should Watch:

If you are watching this movie for Emraan Hashmi, then you can be assured of a paisa wasool time. The film also gives insight into the pressure that students go through while preparing for an exam and how debt-ridden parents mostly end up aggravating them even more. It is based on a real story that every Indian must know about.

We and the public both recommend you to watch it this weekend. Check out the public review below:

Exploring Emraan Hashmi’s Relationship With Cons & Scams

Emraan Hashmi is certainly one of the most sought after actors of Bollywood. He is considered intellectual and a mature spokesperson in general but when it comes to his movies, his personality takes a 360-degree turn. From the serial kisser to a serial scamster, his journey since 2003 has been a roller coaster ride. He took up the most unconventional scripts and characters that created a niche for him in the industry. He has never been our quintessential Bollywood hero but he has his own set of idiosyncrasies. One such thing that we found in common between most of his characters – they are somehow in trouble because of themselves or others and are surrounded by scams and cons.

There’s always something “scammy” around Emraan Hashmi’s characters in quite a few of his movies. We have just listed seven; can you think of more?

Awarapan (2007)

Have you ever seen a gangster with a softer side? Well, that’s the beauty of Bollywood; it makes almost everyone seem lovable. Awarapan is about a heart-broken atheist gangster whose lover was brutally murdered. He finds a girl who reignites his faith in God and he does everything he can to save himself.

Jannat (2008)

Definitely one of his best movies, Jannat is about a guy who lives life on the edge and wants to make it big. He has a fabulous sixth sense that never lets him down. He uses it to win a lot of money and eventually starts fixing cricket matches. Emraan made this implausible story quite believable.

Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai (2010)

Here, Hashmi plays a character loosely based on Dawood Ibrahim and how comes to power. With the aforementioned name, the scam-connection doesn’t really need an explanation. You have to watch this movie for some amazing performances and a thrilling story.

Jannat 2 (2012)

One of the few sequels that didn’t let the original movie down, Jannat 2 is another commendable work of Hashmi. Here, Hashmi plays a small-time arms dealer, secret informer and the lover of a gangster’s daughter. Dealing with so much, he actually dies at the end.

Raja Natwarlal (2014)

The movie is about a small-time con man who wants to avenge his partner-in-crime who was murdered by a gangster. He seeks the help of a seasoned crook who trains him and they end up becoming a team. With a simple story, the movie actually comes alive because of the amazing performances by Emraan Hashmi and Paresh Rawal.

Baadshaho (2017)

An all-rounder daredevil who’ll do anything for money is the kind of character people pay to watch in movies and Hashmi deserved every penny. The movie didn’t do as well on the box-office but his performance was appreciated by everyone.

Crook (2010)

The name of the movie is reason enough for it to be on this list. It revolves around Jai, a young man who is sent abroad by his uncle with strict instructions of not getting into trouble. But that only means one thing – trouble. And he falls in one too many of them.

It is also a fact that every movie where Emraan Hashmi plays the antagonist and dies at the end becomes a massive hit. Not a fact, but just an observation that deserves to be shared.

Hashmi is coming back as a con man in his next movie Why Cheat India where he plays the role of a guy who is the worst nightmare of the Indian education system. The movie releases this Friday and the trailer has already got us excited.

While you are awaiting the release, read more about the movie here and stay tuned for our review.

URI – The Surgical Strike: Film Review – Strikes a Balance Between Strategy and Josh

Verdict: Vicky Kaushal strikes right into your patriotic hearts.

War movies have always struggled to balance on the thin line between the terms patriotism and jingoism. Aditya Dhar, in his debut directorial URI – The Surgical Strike, has successfully delivered a film with the perfect blend of josh, action, and intent. Starring Vicky Kaushal, Paresh Rawal, Rajit Kapur, and Mohit Raina, the movie is a great start of the Bollywood year 2019.

What’s URI: The Surgical Strike About:

The movie revolves around Major Vihaan Shergill (Vicky Kaushal) who is a master of attack strategies and has just executed a successful mission. He has decided to take early retirement because of his mother who is suffering from stage six Alzheimer’s. Instead of retirement, he is offered a desk job by the Prime Minister and he takes it. While he is in Delhi, Pakistani terrorists execute an attack at the URI military camp. The loss makes Vihaan go back to the borders, to plan and execute a surgical strike. The movie is divided into five chapters and takes you through the journey of the Indian Army and NSA – how they executed the answer to what was reported as “the deadliest attack on security forces in Kashmir in two decades”.

What Works:

The story of the movie is a winner itself. You know when you are going in for a movie that is going to remind you how much you love your country, the emotions start pouring in right from the time you stand for the National Anthem. URI keeps you on the edge of your seats right from the beginning. It charges you emotionally with every victory and loss. While the focus stays more on the back-end of the operation, the screenplay strikes a balance between action and strategy.

The movie hits the bull’s eye when it comes to the cast and performances. Vicky Kaushal as Major Vihaan Shergill is extremely convincing. His dedication for the character shows with his body language and a totally new physique. You’ll see him run, combat, slither and shoot and he does all of it with finesse. Paresh Rawal is the backbone of both the operation and the movie. Rajit Kapur, Mohit Raina, and Yami Gautam are great as the backing force behind the mission. They weave the story together, making the movie a complete package.

The background score enhances all the emotional, action and preparatory sequences. The music is purely there to prepare you for what’s coming. The adrenaline dose is already high because of the unlimited ammo, pulling of triggers and the clanking of the cartridge, music just adds the cherry on the top. The action sequences and the VFX are smoothly done. If you are a PUBG person, you will definitely feel like you are looking at a stunning game-play on the big screen.

What Could’ve Been Better:

While there’s nothing wrong with trying to focus on the emotional side of a story and building up to a successful mission, it takes away the screen space that could’ve been used to show the effort and training of the team that actually executes the strike.

Why You Should Watch:

The mission that is the premise of this movie is worth a watch on its own. It shows how the forces on our borders strive justice and go to any extent to provide the same. Vicky Kaushal is a find. He impresses as the Major Vihaan Shergill, like he has impressed us before numerous times. You may like the movie either because of the intent behind the mission, because of the planning or probably because of the execution. But if anyone asks you “How’s the josh?” after this movie, your reply will definitely be “High, sir”.

Everything You Need to Know About Why Cheat India

Director: Soumik Sen
Cast: Emraan Hashmi, Shreya Dhanwanthary
Producer: Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Tanuj Garg, Atul Kasbekar, Parveen Hashmi

Release date: 18th January 2019

There is some connection between Emraan Hashmi and scams. We are obviously talking about his reel life characters. If you look back at his filmography, there are movies like Jannat, Azhar, Raja Natwarlal or Once Upon a Time in Mumbai, where he has been a part of some con or crime. He played the titular role in the film Crook. Not much to our surprise, his next movie is based on the same premise as well. Why Cheat India, his next movie, revolves around the Indian education system and the consistent issues of cheating in national level exams. Hashmi is not far from having his title of the serial kisser changed to the serial scamster.

In Why Cheat India he plays the worst nightmare of the education system as he carries out the scams in entrance exams related to engineering, banking, management and UPSC amongst others. His character Rakesh Singh believes that hard work is for salaried employees, the rich and powerful only employ scams to reach where they are.

He also believes that cheating is a business. Watch him give cheating tips below:

The official teaser poster of the movie was released on the 28th of August last year and the second poster followed on the 12th of November. The trailer of the movie was released exactly a month after that on the 12th of December. Emraan looks convincing in his character of Rakesh Singh in the trailer. While the plot may not be groundbreaking, it is Hashmi’s dialogue delivery that steals the show. The movie, initially named Cheat India, was changed to Why Cheat India just a week before release due to obligations from CFBC.

Why Cheat India was initially set to release on the 25th of January where it was competing with Kangana Ranaut’s Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi and Balasaheb’s biopic Thackeray. But to avoid the clash the release of the movie was preponed by a week. While announcing the release date, producer Bhushan Kumar clarified that the change in date is purely a business call. He said, “We did not shift the release date under any pressure or ego but for a pure business reason. It was our way to pay respect to Balasaheb Thackeray.”

Why Cheat India will now release on the 18th of January 2019. Stay tuned for more on this movie and our review.

8 Movies That Will Inspire You To Join The Army

We all have a story that makes us extremely proud. Stories of heroes who went out of their way and beyond boundaries to do something extremely selfless and brave are the best of them all. Movies, similarly, have very often told us stories of heroes who fought with all their might in order to protect the people oblivious of their struggle. Some of them are recognized widely, while some are unsung heroes who did more than just fight for the country.

Movies have changed lives through these stories. They have educated and inspired a lot of people to an unimaginable extent. We have immense respect in our hearts for those who stand guard for us on our borders and movies time and again give us the inspiration to be like them. Here are a few examples of films that inspire us to join the army:

The Ghazi Attack

This was the story of a Naval crew who found and intercepted the Pakistani Submarine – PNS Ghazi – during their routine surveillance in the year 1971. They went on to fight and thwart their mission of destroying INS Vikrant.

While it cannot be called a war movie, Raazi is as much about patriotism as any other movie. It revolves around a girl named Sehmat, who married into a Pakistani family to spy on them just before the 1971 Indo-Pakistani war. This movie exactly precedes the events of The Ghazi Attack.

Another movie based on the 1971 Indo-Pakistan battle, Border is an all-time Bollywood blockbuster. With a star cast like Sunny Deol, Suniel Shetty, Akshaye Khanna, Jackie Shroff, and Tabu, the movie focuses on the lives of the army officers and their families along with the war.

Even though this one is a fictitious story, it tells us about the story of an army officer who leads his squad to triumph over the Pakistani military troops. On the backdrop of this movies lies the story of a boy in search of his destiny. The film also shows the discipline, strength, and the will required to become a real hero.

LOC Kargil

Another war epic by J P Dutta, LOC Kargil was star-studded with actors like Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgn, Saif Ali Khan, Suniel Shetty, Abhishek Bachchan, Akshaye Khanna, and Manoj Bajpayee. Based on the battle of Kargil fought between India & Pakistan, the movie revolves around the soldiers who fought a fierce battle after learning that Pakistani troops were crossing the Line of Control.

Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty

Holiday is a movie that truly depicts the life of an army officer. The movie revolves around a soldier who goes on a holiday and accidentally bumps into a terrorist who was planning a series of blasts in Mumbai. He then, during his holiday, gathers his team in order to protect the city.

Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran

As the name suggests, Parmanu is based on the nuclear bomb test explosions conducted by the Indian Army in 1998. This operation was done while making sure that American Intelligence does not learn about it, in real life as well.

URI: The Surgical Strike

The latest entry to the list, URI is yet to release but the trailer has got us all hooked to the background of the movie. Based on the 2016 surgical strikes by the Indian Army, this movie is all set to give you goosebumps and make you stand tall with your head high while singing the national anthem.

URI: The Surgical Strike releases on the 11th of January in theatres near you. Keep visiting this space for more on the movie and our review.

Check Out What Your Favorite Stars Are Doing This Year

It is a new year and you must be looking for new things to keep you entertained. The Indian film industry, which produces hundreds of movies has a great lineup for the coming year. We have the heart-throb Hrithik Roshan and Ranbir Kapoor coming back after a brief sabbatical, we have the hit jodi of Pink – Amitabh Bachchan and Tapsee Pannu coming back for a movie, and a lot more. After reading all this, we are sure you are all ready with your search engines to check on your favorite stars and their projects this year. But don’t do it, because we have already stalked all of them and listed everything (work-wise) they will be doing this year. Have a look:

1. Ajay Devgn

Our action hero has a lot lined up this year, however, his movies are not all about action. Ajay Devgn starts the year with Total Dhamaal releasing this February, followed by Luv Ranjan‘s De De Pyar De and Taanaji: The Unsung Warrior in last quarter. Taanaji is not only a massive production, but it also marks the return of the real Devgn couple to the reel world. He is also producing Turram Khan which will be directed by Hansal Mehta.

2. Akshay Kumar

Khiladi Kumar will be seen playing a Sikh warrior in his upcoming biographical drama Kesari, which is releasing in March. Diwali will also be a house-full with the release of Housefull 4 in October. There are two more movies lined up for Kumar whose release dates are still to be announced viz. Good News with Kareena Kapoor Khan and Mission Mangal with Tapsee Pannu, Vidya Balan, and Sonakshi Sinha.

3. Ranveer Singh

Like the past few years, Ranveer Singh features in two of the very hyped movies of 2019 – Gully Boy which is directed by Zoya Akhtar and is inspired by the life of the underground rapper Divine and ’83 which is based on the 1983 Cricket World Cup which traces the phenomenal Indian victory. He has a great year ahead, and so do we.

4. Salman Khan

Every year, ye akha India waits for the Bhai movie and this year Salman Khan’s idi for you is Bharat. This movie unites the super-hit jodi of Katrina Kaif and Sallu Bhai. They were last seen together in Tiger Zinda Hai back in 2017. There are also rumors about a sequel of Kick 2 to release this Christmas, however, nothing has been officially announced.

5. Hrithik Roshan

After a two year sabbatical, Hrithik Roshan will be back with a biographical drama based on the life of Anand Kumar and his training program, Super 30. While this movie is intended to release in the first half of the year, the second half probably has the most dreamy movie of the year featuring Hrithik and Tiger Shroff which might have them both in the same frame, probably dancing shirtless.

1. Alia Bhatt

One of the most impressive lineups this year, Alia Bhatt has three movies this year. Starting with Gully Boy along with Ranveer Singh to Dharma’s Kalank and then Ayan Mukerji‘s Brahmastra alongside Ranbir Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan. All the movies are A-listers and we hope she impresses us in each one of them.

2. Deepika Padukone

After playing Padmavati in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat, Deepika ended the previous year on a note that says “forever”. Her next project is Meghna Gulzar‘s Chhapaak which is the story of the acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. The movie will go on the floors this March.

3. Kangana Ranaut

Kangana is back with the story of our very own hero, Rani Laxmibai. Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi will give a strong start to B-town’s new year. After this, she has a crazy movie coming up called Mental Hai Kya alongside Rajkummar Rao. That’s one heck of a cast to look forward to.

4. Kareena Kapoor Khan

Bebo is taking things slowly as she wants to balance between work and her personal life. Both Saif and Kareena are going to take up one movie a time. In 2019, Kareena will be seen in Good News with Akshay Kumar. She has also been enrolled for Karan Johar‘s Takht which will go on the floors this year.

5. Priyanka Chopra

PeeCee is on full throttle with her wedding, production house, and movies. This year she has two releases, one Hollywood and one Bollywood. She will be seen in the fantasy comedy Isn’t It Romantic and her own production, The Sky is Pink, which is a biopic. A few of her regional productions are also lined up for the year.

While this list ends here, the entertainment with films is never-ending. So keep watching and keep reading everything about movies on our blog.

Bollywood Movies That Changed the Game in 2018

Bollywood went through a transformation in 2018. Be it the relationship status of Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, and Priyanka Chopra, or a few box office trends, a lot has changed. This year showered us with a number of content-rich scripts and made it clear that movies do not need a Khan to become a blockbuster. While the mid-level movies flourished, huge high-budget ventures didn’t do as well in the box office. It has been a revelation and we can only say that it all happened for good. Here’s a list of movies that impressed us thoroughly this year:

Just like its story, nobody could predict the future of this movie. It came out of nowhere and literally blew our minds. Currently on the second position of IMDB’s top ten movies of 2018 list, Andhadhun has undoubtedly become the most loved Bollywood movie of the year. Not only critically, but also commercially, it was a big success.

Badhaai Ho

From a 30-crore budget to a 130-crore collection, this slice-of-life film managed to make everyone laugh and shed a few tears at the same time with its story and performances. This movie marked the second hit of Ayushmann Khurrana in the same month and another mid-level movie became a blockbuster.

A story around a female spy is a concept fairly new in Bollywood. Raazi showed a woman who did more than just fight and train to serve her country. It is one of the few movies that showed gender equality in its real form and got appreciation from critics and audiences alike. It also became the second movie ever to cross the 100-crore mark domestically with a female lead.

Revolving around an Indian folk legend where a female spirit is known to attack and abduct men, Stree redefined the genre of horror comedy. The movie, with more male characters than female ones, had a strong message about women empowerment, snuck under the extremely hilarious screenplay and story. Made on a budget of 20 crores, the film ended up collecting more than 125 crores in the box office.

Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety

A bro-mantic comedy by Luv Ranjan, this one was as fun as the Pyar Ka Punchnama series. An early release, Sony Ke Titu Ki Sweety became the first movie of the year to cross 100 crores without any A-lister star in the cast.

Rani Mukerji‘s first movie in the last four years, Hichki raked in appreciation and money worldwide without any hiccups. The movie revolved around an aspiring teacher with Tourette Syndrome and was made in a mere budget of 12 crores. The worldwide collection of Hichki is almost 240 crores.

Veere Di Wedding

Another film that falls into the “one-of-the-very-few” category was Veere Di Wedding. Female buddy films are not a thing for Bollywood but this one made its mark for sure. The characters of the movie introduced the audience to crass-talking, malfunctioning, and boisterous urban girls who were happy and proud of their imperfections.

This change in reception and appreciation is not restricted only to the silver screen. Filmmakers have also routed their releases to digital platforms such as Netflix, Hotstar and Amazon Prime. Some of the movies that released online and were critically appreciated include Love Per Square Foot, Lust Stories and Rajma Chawal.

The year, for a fact, showed that we as an audience, appreciate good content over anything else and is promising for Bollywood. Here’s to hoping that the upcoming year will bring us more talented actors, writers, and filmmakers. We wish you a very happy New Year!
