The concept of a film series or movie franchises started in Indian cinema even before it began in Hollywood or in any other film industry. Going by the reports that are released by various film archives and magazines, the first film series in India was the Hunterwali film series with two films, Hunterwali (1935) and Hunterwali Ki Beti (1943). In the British film industry, it was with the first James Bond film, Dr. No (1962)  and in Hollywood it began with the first Star Wars film, A New Hope (1977). But over the years, Hollywood and global cinema has come a long way. They create a whole universe for their fans to enjoy.

Some of the movie franchises that are globally famous are the Harry Potter series and movies from the Marvel Cinematic Universe like The Avengers, Iron Man, Spider-Man etc. Indian cinema also has some popular ones like the Munnabhai series, Dhoom series (Hindi), Singam series (Tamil), Kick series (Telugu), Dasan and Vijayan film series (Malayalam) and the Kakababu series (Bengali) to name a few. Most of these though are limited to regional boundaries. With Baahubali, the wait for Indian cinema to have a movie franchise of its own that not only garners national level popularity and beyond but also creates a world of its own has come to an end.

The Baahubali franchise has been able to gain a humongous fandom nationally. That’s evident by the fact that Baahubali 2: The Conclusion trailer is the most liked and most viewed Indian trailer on YouTube till date. On April 28, the fans and all the cinephiles across the country will finally get the answer to the infamous question – Why did Katappa kill Bahubali? But the curtains will not fall anytime soon on this epic creation. During the trailer launch, the director S. S. Rajamouli said that "We are going to continue the world of Baahubali".
